1. Every day brings me new sorrows
And shows me one trouble after another

2. Yet with patience, after my beloved
My eyes find no rest, nor my heart consolation

3. He who lies in the earth, I call out to
Where did the carriage of death take you?

4. O my youthful vigor, teach me
How to forget my worries, not endure them

5. Deprive me of all patience, for
Sorrows have come to me wave after wave

6. How many a brother whose hand held mine
Afterwards kept company with one more helpless

7. And one so close whom death took
While keeping afar many a stranger

8. One so dear, for whom my tears were cheap
Yet to me, dearer than my eyesight

9. O brothers of sincerity, you have passed away
With whom can I share my worries?

10. Your loss has crushed me, unlike any bereft
Troubles upon me multiplied and became grave

11. If you took away parts of my heart
Its entirety left with you today

12. O you buried in a soil that became
The kohl of maidens’ eyes

13. Great is the sorrow of she who bore al-Qurayd
And greater yet the sorrow of she who raised as-Salah

14. Hardships did not wear out your patience
You thought they were but swords coming your way

15. By my life, you spent yours devoutly
Bearing obligations and voluntary acts of worship

16. You folded days with patience upon patience
So sorrows and joys became equal to you

17. How long did your noble face seek from God
Through it, the living attained salvation

18. If you lived without purpose, how many poems
Would have adorned the era with sweetness?

19. And you had the choice of East and West
Coming to you, outshining those before

20. How many times did they strike ears, verse upon verse
overflowing eyes, register upon register?

21. You had rendered the intention behind them sincere
So al-Husayn rewarded you for them, truly

22. These righteous works will remain after you
Recited on the Day of Resurrection

23. O you who attained sanctuaries
Prepared for the reverent, a place of rest

24. You are worthy, and you knew I had
A Protector who would not waste the worthy

25. There they are, having shaded themselves in the shade
Of the One whose shade envelops the world

26. That is Mahdi, the one who upheld the law of truth and justice
Through his words and deeds, faithfully

27. One who, when he gives generously, gives abundantly
And when he speaks, speaks definitively

28. A lion whom God endowed his offspring
With cubs after cubs of lions

29. The guiding scholars are pillars of God’s faith
Its keepers; needless to say their superiority

30. And God watered the righteous Salih with a rain of grace
