1. The epoch rejoiced, dawning radiant,
Filling the universe with delight and joy.

2. A breeze blew from the harbinger therein,
Dyeing the tent of the sky with fragrance.

3. Its times returned as delicate as imaginations,
For you it offers felicity and splendor.

4. Every time that passes, you see it
Cool, good-scented, illuminated.

5. So it is as if exile were native,
And as if eve were every dawn.

6. Blessed from a morn whose forenoon
Yemen arrived with auspicious tidings.

7. And to a rising that unveiled every concern
With prosperity's fingertips it directed.

8. So observe the necklaces of congratulations—
How they adorned therewith the slender nights.

9. And browse its aromatic days and look
How they draped therewith the bridal chambers.

10. A joy whose rays kindled the light—
The world shone, scattering illumination.

11. So receive its age anew and your days
As feast, and living lissomely pure.

12. The diffusion of joys in the harbinger of a people
For whom is the precedence, first and last.

13. The lineage of glory, the family of sheer honor—
They were sanctified united and their hearts wholesome.

14. A law in the heights—and how wondrous!—
For it the greatest nominated the smallest.

15. With them prohibitions are born, so you see
The infant as elder and elder as aged senior.

16. They ventured into the heights—so no wonder in them—
Lofty, splendid glory and perilous honor.

17. Therefrom, East and West are illuminated
With faces that clothe the stars with light.

18. With the sun they rise as suns
And with the moon they rise as moons.

19. O epoch, I see no peer for you—
You were adorned by the Chosen One, most wondrous of ages.

20. Before him, did you sweep a morn's down
From the veil of horizons, baring the ground?

21. Eyes peered toward him, but some returned squinting
While others returned sighted.

22. So to one, his rays were fire
While to another, his rays were light.

23. Satisfaction's resolve informed a soul
That disdained to see the perilous as perilous.

24. How he folded distances, extending the palm of generosity,
Which revived the dead of munificence buried!

25. And he harnessed the seas through his generosity, diverting
From the couches of his rest, seas.

26. No country did he pass with his bliss
Without it refusing toward others to travel.

27. And when he is mentioned, another revolves around it
Yearning, its heart almost taking flight.

28. So he came to a station for one who revolves therein
God prepared a great reward.

29. For in it is God's gentleness—whoever visits it
Visited His Throne, the Subtle, the Expert.

30. He obtained a reward—if the world divided it
They would all tomorrow be rewarded.

31. And in those abodes he left traits
That would tax the rhymed and the prose.

32. And he turned back with the hearts of a people
Who traveled with him, their breasts healed.

33. My friend, may God adorn you,
And may He let you see a glance and joy!

34. Say to Abdel Karim: Receive good tidings, O you
Who constructed the house of bounty frequented!

35. God solaced your eyes through one
Who was the light of your eyes in their prime.

36. He visited Baghdad, one in whom today
The banner of glorious pride is planted.

37. It pleased with him the rising of a full moon of glory—
It saw no evening therein as a warning.

38. No sooner did he appear withsplendid radiance
Than the eye of the envious recoiled from him, vexed.

39. The sky envied it over him and said:
“For your revealer you contained no peer!”

40. “If you would accept compensation for him, I would judge you
Until my crescents, illuminated.”

41. For he enriches whoever is other than he, but
None other than he enriches him, not a bit.

42. Whoever saw him hosting guests and hastening
To the sublime, unleashing captives—

43. Said, “This is Mohammed, that excellent
Friend returned, his figure raised!”

44. And indeed, may he who did not pine in death
Whose striving laudable was not missed!

45. Just as the sun, if it becomes absent, then her son the moon
Clarifies with her light the gloomy darkness.

46. O son of one there came a time of munificence
Wherein, were it not for him, none would be mentioned!

47. Through you the eyes of your brother were delighted
As your visage returned in your brother delighted.

48. So for which of you do I congratulate when
In you two, good tidings and guests are equal?

49. You are but the right hand of loftiness
And he was its famed sword.

50. So if you brandish it one day of pride,
To you the age will come submissively pleading.

51. Go gently with its knight—gently!
You will not stir its soaring dust.

52. Behind you by a distance that tries you
Is what you mounted to, save delusions.

53. Not for the most sublime of glorious Mohammed
Did the heavenly bodies attempt crossing.

54. Magnificent of soul in receiving his youth,
He wears pride every instant glossily.

55. —Tall, how many generous deeds
He initiated, the generous from them turning petty!

56. The growth of wishes bloomed next to his liberties.
They were bosom friends and neighbors.

57. The date of his house was the first of time
Inscribed on the brow of sublimity.

58. From his father, his grandfather the Chosen
He reports the oft-reported tales of bounty.

59. He built in the sky a dome of glory
Wherein planets take silver biers.

60. With bounties they stole the raiment of praise
While people steal silk.

61. Perhaps his elevation prepared him
As a steed for praise unruly.

62. How much occurred while youth was in his ring of munificence
Whereat its measure from him returned stinted!

63. And its horizons Muhammad the guide illuminated
For whoever aimed in darkness the course.

64. A planet disdained to see the orbit of glory
Illumined by its like, spherical.

65. And it had in the trustee Muhammad
One who preserved the treasure of its hidden pride.

66. He climbed where no planets climb
And quenched the incoming with copious drink.

67. And through Abdel Hussein they vied with the sun—
It retreated in the horizon, refusing to illuminate!

68. They are the sons of Saʿd of old, as they are
The brothers of glory, united and kin.

69. So call the warbler of their company, then date
The return of the Chosen therein—make epochs listen!
