1. You have surpassed all in lasting glory,
With no beginning and no end.

2. You were created as your noble ancestress desired,
She who was visited by inspiration, "Be," and so you were, without equal.

3. And you came to the world as the Most High intended,
Repaying kindness manifold.

4. You spread like the downpour of clouds,
Hands that teach the living how to beg.

5. Among people there are those who come to you
Like one drawing water from solid rock.

6. O you who wear the cloak of authority, not pride,
Except the pride contained in that cloak.

7. You have been blessed, unique in encompassing existence
With the chill of loftiness, in which people shiver.

8. Leader of restraint, the dawn breeze never scented his pouch
With finer fragrance than yours.

9. They say the Most High built His lofty abode for you,
And you said: “Nay, the world was built for me.”

10. We lied, for Paradise and its bliss, Ridwan informs,
Tell of it as the Garden of Eternity.

11. From you came the advantages that you alone divided,
And strangest thing shared was the indivisible essence.

12. Are you not of those whose newborn
Flows as a sage while yet in the cradle?

13. They never suckled but from a noble breast,
Never drank but the milk of wisdom.

14. O you highest peak that humiliates the earth,
And you eye, return to your sheath.

15. God honed in the tribe’s palm its sword,
And said, “Judge as you wish, O wise arbiter.”

16. To you belong the enemies’ glances and hearts,
Yours to choose those with enmity.

17. That which brings pride on earth over heaven,
And bedazzles the stars with its good fortune,

18. Are houses in which God placed your likes,
Quintessences of glory He pared from the honored.

19. God allowed them greatness and elevation,
As lamps by which people find guidance.

20. For your face did praise and glory pray,
For you are the thanks and gratitude.
