1. Not by the sun or moon's light
Did the horizon of glory and danger illuminate

2. And in the wilderness your kindness spread
The testimony of the two witnesses, hearing and sight

3. They spoke of you until every mouth
Was fragrant with the scent of your perfume's diffusion

4. So your mention is musk among people, ground
By tongue and mouth, not by pestle and mortar

5. And your creation, the melodious garden, murmurs
In the dewdrops of your humanity, not in sprinkled rain

6. Your palm, when hope was turbulent upon it
Brought forth from it the rarest pearls

7. And your abode where delegations softly tread
In it, most plentifully and gently they live

8. Therein guests are enlivened by your most generous
Giving of hopes to nomad and settled alike

9. Where gardens in the distance illuminate
For visitors the brilliance of radiant stars

10. The upper horizon has come to envy it
For its fireplaces in eras past

11. Wishing it were in its place instead
Of planets, even the sun and moon

12. For meteors and moon, dawn extinguishes their light
And sun lights not the night, nor makes it bright

13. But your abode, its fireplaces have not ceased
Illuminating, connecting nightfall to dawn

14. You continue to raise in it generosities,
A fire the horizon complained of, sparks spraying

15. O lender of the earth in an era which entrusted
The sons of time with treasures of white and yellow

16. As if God tasked none but you for a loan
To doubly recompense in the Secure Book

17. You were not mortal, but the soul of dew
Made evident to the worlds in human form

18. The grasp of a son of greed without shame
Met the destitute with a face of stone

19. Ignorance befell your eminence, so I said to him
"You overreached, but it was a stumbling fall"

20. Fate exalted none but you, not even the most high Abu al-Muhdi
Whose shadow diminished your weakness and disgrace

21. You are tormented with wealth you collect
Fearing the wretchedness of poverty and hardship

22. While he freely spends what he hoards
Like the generous' treasure of praise and gratitude

23. The permanence of rain from his little fingers
For an abode is greater than years of dust

24. O you who observe the course of glories besides yours, take
Fact from it, and leave what is found in biographies

25. In it you will find from his father every glorious feat
That the living cannot match in generosity or trace

26. You will see it through him or Abd al-Karim without
Doubt, and whichever of them you test

27. Seek not through a third associate for the two
Can a third partner match the seeing of two eyes?

28. They branched from a single palm-tree, watered
By the water of piety at the start of an age

29. Its higher branch ascended and bore fruit amid
The stars the likes of brilliant stars

30. In all the clarity of his being, his nature is generosity
And all his manners are unsullied purity

31. None have aspired to satisfaction except that they are
Planets drawing light from the moon

32. He follows favor with another, habitually,
While the generosity of others is the egg of the lizard

33. He has glorious virtues, all precious pearls
On the brow of time, nay more brilliant than pearls

34. Blossoms in the sky of merit revolving
With the likes of which the Green Sphere never circled

35. He saw praise, the garb of pride, woven
By the hand of dew for the eminent and bold

36. So he gave freely until the sea called "Enough! By your
Generosity I have no boon left for mankind."

37. And the tongue of lightning fell silent about him, then called
With thunder "You have honored me, though I am but a palace."

38. It brings into bloom, for those pure of lineage
Who bound themselves long ago to chastity and bright wraps

39. Radiant ones whose light is guiding, while the face
Of their leisure is beautiful in the night of the unknown

40. The two inheritors from al-Muhdi every high place
Their imaginings pure, no fly could land

41. The two open-handed in usefulness, their palms
Clouds that rain favors upon those seeking refuge

42. The two prevailing in merits together
Such that they left no pride for the proud

43. O excellent branch of a fruitful benignity through them
Not every benign branch bears pleasing fruit

44. They did not rise to the limit of pride - do you not see
Aspiration in which they glory but not vainglory

45. But for the Chosen, you discern what they have
On the day of trial, of preparation and resolve

46. The loveliest blossom smiled at meteors
Then lowered its face in shyness, hidden

47. Take, sons of glorious clarity, a she-camel
Born of beauty, between nomad and settled lands

48. She did not sit in an assembly but that, describing you,
It smiled like the garden's smile with blossoms

49. If the minds of some fall short praising them
Then your merit is the burnisher of intellect and thought

50. Still your abode remains for mankind a sanctuary
Which delegations circumambulate, safe from harm
