5. On a sickbed I never imagined

8. I did not know calamities gather in a leap
And death comes in ten folds with bereavement

12. A complainer, but the glory of mourning is her pain

13. Hush! O you who laments, your lamentation mars

Calm, retract it from the intense souls

Leave the righteous to me, and whoever you want;

16. The entrails of guidance will go when he goes
So may you be to me; in your elegy all people

For people are but condemners and hurtful

31. Stop and mourn, or leave me be for a standstill

And some tortured by my elegy

38. Yes, we sat a gathering and the sky
Veiled its shooting stars from which arrows shoot

39. As if we readied for an oncoming night
When it was despair for you that readied us

40. What hope in the return of he whom
The severer of hopes, the setting sun, took?

41. I kill what I faced in you, I attended while
Your person hid from me, absent

43. I turn my gaze and see no dawn from you

52. Your living face - or are your white temples moister?
Your memory dead - or are your spices more fragrant?

53. What they removed from you - or what you wore
To the abode of ruin, the emptier of pockets and barer?

54. I will cry for you eternally in eulogies and have not expressed
From despair, what the bereaved expresses

55. The tongue of eulogies will not after this day rejoice
At praise, nor after today for other than you speak

56. One whose spiritual wisdom was refined by its praise
Departed, and what in his praise becomes refined remains

57. If the rain-giver departed mentioning Muhammad
He never ceased to earn praise and gain merits

58. A noble before whom equals stand
Like the hopes of people desiring and dreading

59. The lowest of his superiorities is that the trains of his honor
Are dragged over the summit of the Galaxy

60. The chief of Quraysh - and their leadership
Is from God in life and in the faith established

61. Taking on the burdens of leadership, carrying
Its weights, satisfying and angering in truth

62. Turning in the club the fingers of S'ud,
Kissing them proudly, wandering and amazing

63. If one day camels were milked, you would see
How far is the habit of life if camels are milked

64. Lighter of spirit by nature, though he
Has the ambition whose heaviness exhausts the time

65. He has a disposition - if time had some of it
Time would become gentle toward us and loved

66. And a demeanor - had the Quran not banned alcohol

68. The excellent partner of clouds, spreading like them

Over the generosity of his open hands, the well-groomed

71. For wherever dew is, not a cloud
Scowling, nor lightning that mars virtues

Other than praise, for none other than you speaks

73. The times donned your attire, so leave
What by my love, when you wear, becomes worn

74. If vast earth narrowed under your great calamity
Your chest is vaster than it and your shoulders wider

75. Your patience firmer than the plateaus of an abyss
Your loyalty stronger than the fangs of foreigners

76. No calamity that girded its loins with resolve
Has landed a blow like Hussein and the brother who craves blows

77. The young man of resolve - in prohibition one
But in the procession of resolve he leads processions

78. If people scheme seriously, he schemes counter
And if they turn the scales, he turns scales

79. If discord overwhelms people, his rebuke

80. If a sword sharpened by his tongue

82. He rivals in manners that charm you for being
Like the soul, save that it does not freeze

83. He lived humbly until he walked on the ground
While the home of his sublimity in heaven is pitched

84. He hosted his guest before hosting with the cheer of his face
And before descent of hosting, a people and welcome

85. When the clouds milk the breeze, his palm
Naturally pours its generosity being milked

86. Lo, will you take from me in the morning, a message

87. O Aba Hasan, if your house and sky
Were two skies, meteors perforating their horizons

88. That sky is luck, its stars good and bad

91. For from your guiding face looking out

93. For every son of glory, not but the prime of youth

94. O brother of resolve - ifapplied in its softness
A child, and if accustomed, grayer

95. Your sons, sons of sublimity; you sired in them
God grant you - do you know with whom you sire?

96. Stallions, whom the sun does not keep pace with
Though in their horizons, it keeps pace from you

97. Of hidden gems whose gleam reveals the darkened
While others in the seer's eye are darkened

98. O people of lofty souls and feats by birth
For you prevail in gaining virtues

99. You cultivated figures charming whose fragrance
Is more redolent than the musk's breath

100. You have a glory's nature - so for enemies
It passes, while this remains for lovers to sweeten

101. You were forged as swords whose piercing
Only the shoulder of glory their equal may absorb

102. You pitched verses of pride - O most high
For you instead the stars flagellate

103. For those are but decor for their sky
While these flagellate glory strikingly

104. So guard them disappointed, who for booty took
A brilliance its adornment cannot be taken

105. She came to you a maiden in the slenderness of youth
While around her, the time is an old maid

106. May you ransom those dignities, the envier of your glory
Or else through you he lived tortured

107. You rose like the rising of the sun in the orient of sublimity
So do not set, as long as the sun rises and sets
