1. O Abu al-Fadl, whenever you recite poetry
In it you instill the magic of your eloquence

2. And when you dispatch a diving thought
In the oceans of verse you bring out a pearl

3. How much you have attempted a feat in which
You were ahead of both assemblies in prose and verse

4. You have free verse that is delicate
And delicate verse was never free

5. If you browse it you find every verse
Contains half of its beautiful qualities

6. Woven in its diffusion is the unique rhyme
With the unique flowing of its rhyme, woven and diffused

7. Every word is ingots of pure gold
Thoughts not cast by minds, their ingots pure gold

8. We listened, dazzled by its sublime ideas
Saying: God has a mystery in your ideas

9. The full moon of your verse has shone an age
You came alone with it, so you are matchless in your age

10. It has guided the stars of verse, stars
That rose in your poetry's sky as flowers

11. It reminded us of a beloved, so we said
There is in these rhymes a reminder

12. It gave us rain of revival, so we said
You are more apt in composition, O rain

13. It recited miraculously, calling on Ahmad
Whoever perceives it, I believe secretly and openly

14. So we picked flowers of companionship
And faced it like the rising virgin sun

15. The mind swoons when recited as if
The words a cup, the hearing intoxicated

16. So I see you as Al-Khidr, but he has
The water of life's eye that pours wine

17. They are verses of a Messenger in rhyme
Their Lord has encompassed verse with wisdom

18. We have read the resolves of poetry therein
And bowed to God in thanks and praise
