يا جعفر الجود كم انهلت ظمآنا

1. O Ja'far, how much thirst have you quenched for us,
So our insides were saturated with your generosity.

١. يا جعفر الجودِ كم انهلت ظَمآنا
فراحَ مُبتلةً أحشاهُ ريَّانا

2. How much have you extended a hand that has no equal,
With your benevolence and kindness you have contended with the clouds.

٢. وكم بسطتَ يداً ما للسحابِ يدٌ
بأن تساجِلها جُوداً وإحسانا

3. With it you have built pillars of glory,
And erected a ceiling competing the highest heavens.

٣. بَنَت عماداً به من مجدِها رفَعت
سقفاً يسامِتُ في علياهُ كيوانا

4. How much with it you have deflected the descending calamities,
Saving the refugees from certain annihilation.

٤. وكم دفعتَ بها في صدرِ نازلةٍ
طرحتَ منها عن اللاّجينَ ثَهلانا

5. So who can compete with you in glory and nobility,
When you are the highest of the eminent in status.

٥. فمن يساميكَ في مجدٍ وفي شَرفٍ
وأنتَ أرفعُ أبناءِ العلى شانا

6. What they claim you have is not pride,
But the loftiness inherited from Hashim.

٦. وليسَ ما فيكَ كِبراً مثل ما زَعِمَ
الحُسَّادُ بل شَمخٌ من هاشمٍ كانا

7. If perfection took human form, they would not find,
Anyone but you to represent that ideal human.

٧. لو الكمالُ بدا شخصاً لما وجدوا
سواكَ في عينِ ذاك الشخصِ إنسانا

8. O most benevolent of all generous people,
And firmest of resolute men.

٨. فيا أرقَّ ذوي المعروفِ كلّهم
يداً وأصلبَ أهل الحزمِ عِيدانا

9. I sought you while calamities convened,
Like rain you took the place of the absent downpour.

٩. قد انتجعتكَ والأنواءُ مُحفلةٌ
غيثاً يقومُ مقامَ الغيثِ هَتانا

10. You were a perpetual raincloud that poured leaves upon me,
Amazing that drizzles were rivers.

١٠. فكنتَ ديمَةُ جودٍ أمطرت وَرقاً
لديَّ فاعجب لقَطرٍ كانَ عُقيانا

11. So may every poetess thank you, singing your praises,
With eloquent voices declaring your virtues.

١١. فلتشكرنَّك ما غنَّت مطوَّقةٌ
نواطِقٌ بالثنا تطريك إعلانا
