1. Souls may attain in their pursuits
What they desire of their aims

2. And they may prolong striving
For their decrease or increase

3. So what it believed would be attained
Eluded it

4. And what was not in its belief came to it
And whatever Allah decreed for it

5. Flows near it and far from it
This is the son of the generous lady tomorrow

6. Luxuriating in the exquisite of her carpets
Her steed, and is there on the racecourse of glory

7. One swifter than Muhammad her steed?
Time denied its harshness

8. Heat cannot rest on its braziers
So it flowed from its abode like a torrent

9. Drawing glory in its lands
Seeking it with a wakeful eye that saw

10. Its pillows sweeter than its slumber
Aspiring from obstinacy something difficult

11. Time cannot aspire to its loftiness
Until it chose from mighty glory a lofty house

12. The hand of glory is raised from its columns
So it settled in its spacious glory

13. The stars of the horizon resentful of it
There he legislated prohibitions

14. And established customs for its judge
And it made lawful for him manners

15. Its bitter manners unlike its opposites
So he was its waning crescent in its firmness

16. And every passing day one of its feasts
Hoping to return in prosperity

17. To Baghdad in blissful living
Yet he returned in a coffin bearing Safiyya

18. Dearer to him than its darkness
I wished to congratulate him on his arrival

19. Not condole his loss
And in the club of Muhammad's family

20. I say my eyelids were sated with his glories
Not that I say in her mourning

21. Patience, but where is patience from my heart?
O shame of the days from Muhammad

22. Her righteous restrainer from corruption
Dishonor has dyed its faces

23. So let it conceal with pitch blackness
Oh how the nights fell short of what they reaped

24. For Abu al-Mahdi in their extension!
Is it not their way, their palms filled

25. From his white palm in assistance?
A master on earth whom you see as mercy

26. Encompassing all the earth uniquely
He gave life to its fertility and death to its barrenness

27. With his generosity, for it was of its pegs
A moderator who exceeds in giving dew

28. Whereas people are stingy in moderation
As if his gravity were his garments

29. Containing the mountains in their aggregation
For the people of earth he closed a rift

30. That they could not close in its closure
It feared, and when it resorted to his might

31. He gave it peace while the earth in its cradle
He aspires to the tribe of glory that

32. Its edge speaks of its sharpness
If you counted it as a matter of pride

33. That it enters the flower of meteors in its number
The reports of bounty were consecutive from it

34. Transmitted among its sons in their individuals
In everyone purified by piety

35. Sins do not cling in their chests
Rather, how can proof of noble lineage not be confirmed

36. When Abu al-Amin was among its witnesses?
The call to the courtyard of generosity from him is a blessing

37. With which pilgrims are watered in their throngs
Its flowing charity increases if Afflictions increase

38. In their slings
He prayed to the Most High behind a predecessor

39. Who was the choice of its glories
That is his brother and father of merits in which

40. Glory has taken in their bones
From it satisfaction to pilgrims wherever it was discontent

41. From the stinginess of the people of earth in their pursuit
The beloved of manners, envied for his sublimity

42. May the Most High endure with his enviers
He mixed good tidings for those affectionate to him

43. With terrible wrath for those hateful to him
Like vast oceans his sweetness he quenches

44. And the turbulent drowns in its depths
Or like barren clouds, its lightning hoped for

45. And the thunderous feared for its thunder
For him is the gentle, abundant bounty, and other's

46. Is like suckling from its resolute
The smiling moon of nightfall glows though

47. The faces of some frown on their judge
Joy gleams on his forehead

48. When guests arrive and increase
His guiding glory has reached the stars

49. Until the shoulder was elevated by its individuals
And their lights ignited above them

50. Until they complained to him of their suppression
Al-Mahdi left better than anyone who walked

51. Upon this earth in its cradle
And he stood in his lofty abode a keeper

52. For him the reins of generosity in its cherisher
While some are like fire, leaving naught of it

53. Save what was of its ashes
Dazzling, the full moon resembles him not

54. For it is marred by spots in its darkness
Of a class in which is dignity and prohibition

55. An hour in which it is born
Like Mustafa the pride, but enough of him

56. In the nobility of the soul and its assistance
Sublime - if it weren't for pettiness of the soul

57. It would be said this is Mustafa's ancestors
Who is like him and where can his equal be found?

58. O guide of good deeds among its generous!
This one whose chastity you found

59. Like the coolness of dew on livers
And of Hussein his generosity speaks

60. As the meadow spoke of its helper
Like rain in its downpour, the moon in its

61. Sublimity, and the sun in its burning
Rather, in the trusted Amin is the soul of the Forbearing

62. Of anger at what was disliked by his enviers
Ja'far of virtue and generous Ja'far but

63. That suffices you of their number
The mother of loftiness bore others

64. But she is the elite of her children
She aspires to the sky to make its expanse her bed

65. And meteors to make her pillow
Where Abu al-Mahdi has nominated her

66. For pride and eminence since her birth
O people whose dreams were not diverted

67. By events disturbing their pegs
Make them treasures even if

68. They appeared in darkness in their blackness
And characterize them, so they came illuminated

69. In their expanses due to your praises
With the subtlety of rhymes it descended

70. To the position of the soul from the body
It came to you bereaved without hire

71. Belittling al-Khansa' in her composition
If it repeated the elegy of a boulder it would show

72. How the boulder fractured in its repetition
It wailed and brought tears to the eyes of loftiness

73. With weeping melting from her heart
Then she supplicated without imposing on your quarters

74. Save good news however far their reach
And no awareness save congratulations heard you

75. Or praises enrapturing in their composition
And she did not cease confounded

76. Shelter of glory in her bones
O people whose dreams were not diverted

77. By events disturbing their pillars
Make them treasures even if

78. They appeared from sorrows in their darkness
And characterize them, so they came illuminated

79. In their expanses due to your praises
With the subtlety of its rhymes it descended

80. To the position of the soul from the body
It came to you bereaved without hire
