6. Preoccupations distracted my thoughts from verse
Ailments prevented their harvest.

7. If they would leave me briefly, I would gift you
Songs from a throat melodious and supple.

8. But I say, though my mind is gratified
By the difficulty of crafting analogies,

9. Your rival, o son of chivalrous whites,
Has grasped your stirrup-strap, so beware!

10. You have pitched tents at the celestial pole,
So tether their ropes to the stars,

11. And live in peace and joy,
Calm of mind, gentle of manner.
