1. Is it a flash of lightning or the lips
Within which lies the sap of vines?

2. Milking the clouds is their chatter
And their talk is milking the sweet drink

3. When they showed us the tale
Of union like a blossoming meadow

4. They let fall from the coolness poems
Strung like precious pearls

5. Quenching on a night of bliss
In that clear draft

6. With the cup circulating round me
Helped by the eye of the cupbearer

7. So my joints and their eyelids
Are equal in languor

8. The transports of wine empowered me
To achieve the impossible

9. If the Lord of toast and camel
Were to reproach me then

10. For my rapture I would gift Him
The Lord of vineyard and palm

11. Now enough O Saad of the songs
Of the taverns and palaces

12. Rise to the glad tidings which have
Spread in all corners of the world

13. With the recovery of the one who crossed with me
The celestial orbit

14. How many a weeping eye when it lamented
Turned to the Almighty

15. And implored the recovery of the full moon
Of glory, granter of all requests

16. So He answered its prayer and said
You have come back with a delighted eye

17. With it is good news for you, and in
Opposing it, tending to destruction

18. I swear that the burning sorrows
Have no remedy except Muhammad

19. The righteous, blessed neighbor
of the seeker of refuge

20. O protector! With his recovery, the days
Have become perfumed with the scent of meadows

21. With his kindness wafts the fragrance
Of glory, not the scent of incense

22. Eyes have forever looked
At the lofty star of his form

23. As numerous as the stars his qualities
And the firmly rooted principles

24. All virtues stand before him
And walk wherever he commands

25. So when you look upon the age
With a critical, discerning eye

26. You will not find it but a page
Of the exploits of mankind

27. And apart from his beautiful feats
There are no lines in it

28. One glance is enough for the wise man
To be free of the advisor’s gaze

29. And with the eye of his flowers he sees
The outcome of matters in the end

30. The sweetness of his generosity
Makes happy the abundant rain

31. They split its fruits open
Without soiling or severing

32. They planted their hopes by the side
Of his sweet, limpid kindness

33. So it grew and upon it waved
Like crops wave by the brook

34. Were it not for the gaze of his son
I would swear excellence has no peer

35. For by his beauty their beauty
As rays come from the shining moon

36. Do you not see the superiority
The moon has over the sun in radiance and light?

37. The best of all nobles, and among them
Whatever you wish of generosity and good

38. Watering old glory, supporting
The great and small equally

39. O people! Without them
Generosity would be without kin

40. Your eyes have found peace in the health
Of the elite of high rank

41. And hereby the joy spreads
From this bliss to the resurrection
