1. I refuse to rebuke my drunken boon companion
When he talks nonsense in his drunkenness

2. I am cultured and learned about wine and its connoisseurs
And honorable company never acts so crudely

3. So I won't reproach a boon friend for a slip
Or a moment's lapse over cups of wine

4. I clinked glasses with my chatty friend
As we sipped exquisite vintage wine

5. When he went too far I said take a hearty draft
For you are from a tribe of endless prattle

6. I kept filling his glass and drank as much
As I'd poured my friend till dawn's first light

7. Else your sharp tongue when sober
Would wag through every branch of poetry
