1. The son of Masma' hosted his guest with little water in Al-Qurah
While his awful neighbor was begging

2. When the guest saw there was no hospitality with the host
He turned away escaping, making excuses

3. He called out loudly "O Bakr bin Wa'il
Beware those who hope for your hospitality are misguided

4. Your chief shunned the guest so what's with you
Rabi'ah spent the night with your guest wandering

5. You feared hosting guests though you were
Once alive by having the needy rely on you

6. By Allah why have you become stingy
Falling short while the guest gets hosted and housed

7. And honored until he gains provisions when given
Saying upon leaving "how beautiful", making it more beautiful

8. Wait, O Banu Bakr, leave the family of Masma'
And their opinion whose horses don't race curled-tailed

9. And your guests are waiting for you so treat them hospitably
Satisfy them for that is more beautiful

10. Do not be fools like one who says
Proverbs quote those impersonating him

11. When traveling bands meet and converse
The Banu Masma' until they protect and excel

12. But do not seek their verses for their neighbor
And guest are equally imploring, I beseech you

13. They are people who disappointed the guest with them, their hospitality
Among them is only the mean, stingy one

14. If my mounts carried me to Banu Shayban
Their hosting would now be present when housed

15. Those most deserving all nobleness
And worthiest one day to treat well and excel

16. O Banu Masma', may Allah not let your houses be near
Nor may your valley remain with water overflowing

17. For you did not deter the heroes with white and spear
When the fires of war began feasting
