1. Ignorantly, Raqash threatened me - would that
I and every other Raqash on earth were in ropes!

2. For he is of a vile cradle and an ignoble mother,
Evil is the lodging of a guest in such an age.

3. Had I not left Raqash and his band,
I would be more humiliated than a sandal’s sole.

4. My hands failed me, and I followed other than guidance
A path, succeeding not in virtue or merit.

5. Bones of impotence, lips of filth, source of villainy -
Debauched with insolence in plenty and eternity.

6. When they feel secure from time’s calamities, they rebel
Insolent as dogs in comfort and tranquility.

7. And if time wounds them with the strike of events,
They become like staffs of withered, slender trees.

8. Black-fated jackals amid the valleys, foxes
When war’s heat stirs their dens - they boil!
