You are not one who hears or blames

2. O my books, you have left me with regret
Alas! You neither forget nor go away

3. O my books, you have clad my skin with grief
Your gilded cover was no use to me

4. How many dark nights I spent
Sleepless until the planets disappeared

5. As if I see under the darkness
The skulls of the dead seem to speak

6. While people either drowned in worries
Or drowned in their cups drinking

7. Or a lover who found his beloved
And got from his life what he desires

8. Or drunk dreaming in his night
Of his past days and what follows

9. One benefits from what he possesses
While you are useless and fruitless

10. Except for stories and wishes
And the experience of their tired owner

11. May the Merciful not have mercy on those
Who taught the world to write

12. I complained while my life was still young
How about me when dusk approached?

13. When dusk approached I made peace with it
That which complains yet gets no angry

14. The one I once told while my heart was still bleeding and passion still burning
O my books, you have left me with regret

15. Alas! You neither forget nor go away
O my books, you have clad my skin with grief

16. Your gilded cover was no use to me
So now, O my books, come to the one

17. Whose worst is best
You're not worse than the toil of wishes

18. While it is truthful yet lies
You're not harsher than the agony of passion

19. While it tires though it plays
You're not more expensive if expensive

20. Than a hoarded gem or damaged
You don't lack, in drunkenness and pleasure

21. The poison that is sipped
And say that we are of a flock

22. Where turns alternate and follow
Tomorrow we will all pass away

23. In life we have nothing but your dusty cover
I wish when I'm under the soil

24. I have a talkative skull that speaks
To readers who please me

25. Pleased with yourcondition when I complain
O my books wish what you will
