فإن تنصفوا يا آل مروان نقترب

1. If you are just, O clan of Marwan, we will come near,
Otherwise, bid us farewell and depart.

١. فَإِن تُنصِفوا يا آلَ مَروانَ نَقتَرِب
إِلَيكُم وَإِلا فَأذَنوا بِبعادِ

2. For we have, because of you, a refuge and home
With Jesus, in the winds of the open desert.

٢. فَإِنَّ لَنا مِنكُم مراحاً وَمَزحَلاً
بِعيسٍ إِلى ريحِ الفَلاةِ صَوادي

3. And on earth, away from the abode of disgrace, there is a course,
And every land where I have camped is my homeland.

٣. وَفي الأَرضِ عَن دارِ المَذَلَّةِ مَذهَبٌ
وَكُلُّ بِلادٍ أَوطَنَت كَبِلادي

4. So what can al-Hajjaj accomplish with all his effort
When we have gone beyond the trench of Ziyad?

٤. فَماذا عَسى الحجّاجُ يَبلُغُ جُهدُهُ
إِذا نَحنُ جاوَزنا حفيرَ زِيادِ

5. Curse the father of al-Hajjaj and curse his old woman,
Whose son grazes in pastures.

٥. فَباِستِ أَبي الحَجّاجِ وَاِستِ عَجوزِهِ
عَتيدُ بهمٍ يَرتَعي بوهادِ

6. Were it not for the clan of Marwan, Ibn Yusuf
Would be as he was, a slave from the slaves of Iyad,

٦. فَلَولا بَنو مَروانَ كانَ اِبنُ يوسُفٍ
كَما كانَ عَبداً مِن عَبيدِ إِيادِ

7. At a time when he was a slave admitting disgrace,
Flattering the boys of the villages as he wandered.

٧. زَمان هُوَ العَبدُ المُقِرُّ بِذِلَّةٍ
يُراوِحُ صِبيانَ القرى وَيُغادي
