1. The banners of the Arabs did not flutter aloft
Until Islam's verses made them honorable,

2. Nor did our civilization become illuminated
Until we had aspirations for glory.

3. Goodness is not known to those diseased at heart,
Nor can one reform if the self remains unrefined.

4. The resolute pioneers blazed the trail of glory,
With milestones and guides for seekers to align.

5. They established exemplary traditions for us,
Which no caprice or superstition led astray.

6. O master of messengers, here dawns your birthday,
As if a time appointed for benevolence to shine.

7. A day when hearts brim over with joy,
When praise and gratitude fill and refine.

8. You came to a turbulent world of blaring din,
Where the mighty preyed on the frail and slight.

9. There was blasphemy, wine, atheism, heresy,
Disunity and schisms spread outright.

10. You called them to truth and guided them;
Your call for equality set matters right.

11. With justice you remained among them, appealing,
Until hatred and enmity took flight.

12. You went on to shatter the idol worship,
No more sculpting gods remained in sight.

13. We said the world transformed, shadows receded,
Oppressors and evil expired in the light.

14. But nescience proved only dormant, disguised,
The West's awakening masked in blight.

15. Abetted by institutions in its plight.
O Parisians, cease your bloodletting,

16. Such imbecilities bring no respite.
You claimed peace to be your objective,

17. Produce evidence of your hollow spiel.
In Jesus' teachings, O lovers of His ways,

18. Is there injustice, hatred and ordeal?
Where is the peace Jesus spread?

19. What became of the commandments' seal?
Your aggression and tyranny betray

20. That Gospel and Torah cannot heal.
Christ is innocent of your crimes.

21. Nobility and chivalry take flight.
O you reveling in music's joys,

22. Your kin in Bizerte lie dead from the fight.
The infidels' grinding mill massacred them.

23. No escape from death offered respite.
Their children eat rocks to still their hunger.

24. Their elders survive on dirt they bite.
O people, cease indulging yourselves,

25. And hold yourselves accountable outright.
When do we arise, with sanctity breached,

26. Ranks broken, unity no longer tight?
Daily we protest and object in vain,

27. No pleas or laments make things right.
But we must defend what is sacred

28. Against all who covet with envy and spite.
No more hypocrisy, cheating or lies.

29. Daily you waver and switch sides.
Only our faith will avail us -

30. God is Greatest, not Al-Lat or Al-Uzza's might.
Guidance and goodness cannot reign

31. Until intentions are loyal and contrite.
My master, O messenger of God, inclinations

32. To evil have surfaced and grasped us tight.
All see truth as confined to their doctrine,

33. Mere ignorant pagan rites.
Misguided fools peddle these creeds,

34. As voices of blasphemy, treason and blight
Once called for peace - can bands

35. Of thieves sincerely desire respite?
Ask about peace in Kirkuk's carnage,

36. The earth and heavens tremble from the plight.
Savage infidel gangs, hatred their wage,

37. Destroyed it out of spite.
Forgive me, O guide of justice and grace,

38. If my verses fail your glory to cite.
Poetry cannot scale where revelations

39. Extolled and proclaimed your virtuous might.
But sighs and laments I reiterate,

40. Though the anguished gain no respite.
A caged nightingale may fall silent,

41. While parrots continue shrill recite.
