1. By Allah, tell me your news
For I have not seen you in three days

2. O you who preceded others in
Gaining my affection, what delayed you

3. And my onlooker, why do you still
Wait for you?

4. O you who forgot my pact
My pact did not make you remember

5. O you who turned away from
His beloveds, what patience you have

6. Between my eyelids and my pain
Since you were absent from me, preoccupied

7. And my joy, you were that, so why
Did you deprive my eyes from seeing you?

8. You took a heart which
Had been unjust to me for so long

9. How did you change, and who
Is this that changed you?

10. And how, O my tormentor
Did you cut off your news from me?

11. And about my passion, whenever
My heart blamed you, it excused you

12. So strange is the youthfulness in you
None blamed you but thanked you

13. By Allah I was never disloyal in love
You have the guarantee and the wager

14. O you who took my heart, have you not
Gotten your fill of it?

15. I used to have patience in which
God would prolong your lifetime

16. And by the right of your eyes, you have
Set up your eyes as a snare

17. And a jealous one said, so he did not
Leave anything for us or spare

18. He still strives his utmost
O gazelle, until he scared you away
