1. O you who left, leaving me
No benefit in life after you,
١. يا راحِلاً لَم يُبقِ لِيَ
مِن بَعدِهِ بِالعَيشِ نَفعا
2. The earth grew narrow around me
When you left, and I was sore distressed,
٢. ضاقَت عَليَّ الأَرضُ في
كَ وَضِقتُ بِالهِجرانِ ذَرعا
3. I tended the star in you, O you
Who used to guard me and tend me,
٣. وَرَعَيتُ فيكَ النَجمَ يا
مَن كانَ يَحفَظُني وَيَرعى
4. I weep for you in these verses
That have grown so tender they are tears.
٤. أَبكيكَ بِالشِعرِ الَّذي
قَد رَقَّ حَتّى صارَ دَمعا
