أتتك ولم تبعد على عاشق مصر

1. You came to a lover who does not turn away
And poetry of praise came to you eagerly

١. أَتَتكَ وَلَم تَبعُد عَلى عاشِقٍ مِصرُ
وَوافاكَ مُشتاقاً لَكَ المَدحُ وَالشِعرُ

2. Speak to the righteous, merciful king
Of the most amazing thing - it is righteousness and the sea

٢. إِلى المَلِكِ البَرِّ الرَحيمِ فَحَدِّثوا
بِأَعجَبِ شَيءٍ إِنَّهُ البَرُّ وَالبَحرُ

3. To the victorious king, with might and dew
His swords are red and his plains are green

٣. إِلى المَلِكِ المَسعودِ ذي البَأسِ وَالنَدى
فَأَسيافُهُ حُمرٌ وَساحاتُهُ خُضرُ

4. He is gentle and stern towards the meek and the hostile
For God - he has that custom and norm

٤. يَرِقُّ وَيَقسو لِلعُفاةِ وَلِلعِدى
فَلِلَّهِ مِنهُ ذَلِكَ العُرفُ وَالنُكرُ

5. He protects the sanctity of Islam, adheres to sanctity
And the mouth of reverence is sweet to him, not the mouth of a fortress

٥. يُراعي حِمى الإِسلامِ لازَمَنَ الحِمى
وَيَحلو لَهُ ثَغرُ المَخافَةِ لا الثَغرُ

6. When we overflow in mentioning him
The ignorant say "he has gone beyond limits"

٦. إِذا ما أَفَضنا في أَفانينِ ذِكرِهِ
يَقولُ جَهولُ القَومِ قَد ذَهَبَ الحَصرُ

7. He is surrounded by the Ayyubid family
Through them, Islam rose up and disbelief faded

٧. تَكَنَّفَهُ مِن آلِ أَيّوبَ مَعشَرٌ
بِهِم نَهَضَ الإِسلامُ وَاِندَحَضَ الكُفرُ

8. Bahāʾ ad-Dīn, kings over every pulpit
In every coin, their mention travels

٨. بَهاليلُ أَملاكٌ عَلى كُلِّ مِنبَرٍ
وَفي كُلِّ دينارٍ يَسيرُ لَهُم ذِكرُ

9. It suffices that al-Kāmil is related to them
And that suffices them - this is glory and pride

٩. وَيَكفيكَ أَنَّ الكامِلَ النَدبَ مِنهُمُ
وَيَكفيكَهُم هَذا هُوَ المَجدُ وَالفَخرُ

10. So O king whose mention has spread through the peninsula
Feared and hoped for - with him is benefit and harm

١٠. فَيا مَلِكاً عَمَّ البَسيطَةَ ذِكرُهُ
يُرَجّى وَيُخشى عِندَهُ النَفعُ وَالضَرُّ

11. You have virtue, it has become magnificent with Fadl and Ja'far
And it woke up diminished before him

١١. لَكَ الفَضلُ قَد أَزرى بِفَضلٍ وَجَعفَرٍ
وَأَصبَحَ في خُسرٍ لَدَيهِ فَناخُسرُ

12. You forgot the kings of past eras
They have no power that can be counted or measured

١٢. وَأَنسَيتَ أَملاكَ الزَمانِ الَّذي خَلا
فَلا قُدرَةٌ مِنهُم تُعَدُّ وَلا قَدرُ

13. And you have done so many good deeds
The house and stone became proud of it in the morning

١٣. وَكَم لَكَ مِن فِعلٍ جَميلٍ فَعَلتَهُ
فَأَصبَحَ مُعتَزّاً بِهِ البَيتُ وَالحِجرُ

14. Whoever plants good will reap its fruits
Its quick reward being mention, and its delayed reward being a prize

١٤. وَمَن يَغرِسِ المَعروفَ يَجنِ ثِمارَهُ
فَعاجِلُهُ ذِكرٌ وَآجِلُهُ أَجرُ

15. Happy is Egypt for what virtues it discovered in you
And what attained Baghdad from what Egypt attained?

١٥. وَطوبى لِمِصرٍ ماحَوَت مِنكَ مِن عُلاً
وَمَن مُبلِغٌ بَغدادَ ما قَد حَوَت مِصرُ

16. Through your presence that land shook
Becoming humbled by your nearness, crumbling

١٦. بِكَ اِهتَزَّ ذاكَ القَطرُ لَمّا حَلَلتَهُ
وَأَصبَحَ جَذلاناً بِقُربِكَ يَفتَرُ

17. It saw glory for you that its granter never saw
After the sun's radiance, dawn is not mentioned

١٧. رَأى لَكَ عِزّاً لَم يَكُن لِمُعِزِّهِ
وَبَعدَ ضِياءِ الشَمسِ لا يُذكَرُ الفَجرُ

18. If Egypt had attained its wishes through your proximity
Then O lord of Egypt - the sea would split after you

١٨. لَئِن أَدرَكَت مِصرٌ بِقُربِكَ سُؤلَها
فَيا رُبَّ مِصرٍ شَقَّهُ بَعدَكَ البَحرُ

19. Your generosity dispels adversity, not life
And your face dispels darkness, not the full moon

١٩. يُزيلُ بِهِ اللَأواءَ جودُكَ لا الحَيا
وَيَجلو بِهِ الظَلماءَ وَجهُكَ لا البَدرُ

20. A land where the breeze was fragrant because
It visits you from a land that is India and Syria

٢٠. بِلادٌ بِها طابَ النَسيمُ لِأَنَّهُ
يَزورُكَ مِن أَرضٍ هِيَ الهِندُ وَالشَحرُ

21. And how many strongholds you conquered there
Its neighboring stars could not protect it

٢١. وَكَم مَعقِلٍ فيها مَنيعٍ مَلَكتَهُ
وَلَم يَحمِهِ جيرانُهُ الأَنجُمُ الزُهرُ

22. It frowned until the clouds marched beneath it
If not for your call, the masses would have valued the rain

٢٢. أَنافَ إِلى أَن سارَتِ السُحبُ تَحتَهُ
فَلَولا نَداكَ الجَمُّ عَزَّ بِهِ القَطرُ

23. Had Sanaa known you were coming
Good tidings would have come to it and joy would have lasted

٢٣. وَلَو عَلِمَت صَنعاءُ أَنَّكَ قادِمٌ
لَحَلَّت لَها البُشرى وَدامَ بِها البِشرُ

24. Look - people you were absent from are lost
And a place you are not in is desolate

٢٤. أَلا إِنَّ قَوماً غِبتَ عَنهُم لَضُيَّعٌ
وَإِنَّ مَكاناً لَستَ فيهِ هُوَ القَفرُ

25. So my friend, for your right, stop for me
So I can thank and reward you

٢٥. فَياصاحِبي هَب لي بِحَقِّكَ وَقفَةً
يَكونُ بِها عِندي لَكَ الحَمدُ وَالأَجرُ

26. Bear greetings that are a garden of beauty
With it, the stars' flowers, not flowers, are presented

٢٦. تَحَمَّل سَلاماً وَهوَ في الحُسنِ رَوضَةٌ
تُزَفُّ بِها زُهرُ الكَواكِبِ لا الزَهرُ

27. Egypt and its palace corners are special for it
So blessed is Egypt and blessed is the palace

٢٧. تُخَصُّ بِهِ مِصرٌ وَأَكنافُ قَصرِها
فَيا حَبَّذا مِصرٌ وَيا حَبَّذا القَصرُ

28. Kiss the ground of the palace in prostration through your life
And stand up serving there for me - and do not be small

٢٨. بِعَيشِكَ قَبِّل ساحَةَ القَصرِ ساجِداً
وَقُم خادِماً عَنّي هُناكَ وَلا صُغرُ

29. Before a generous king, conqueror
His gathering place is the world and his servant is fate

٢٩. لَدى مَلِكٍ رَحبِ الخَليقَةِ قاهِرٍ
فَمَجلِسُهُ الدُنيا وَخادِمُهُ الدَهرُ

30. I will stir embers between kings for him
From his mention comes dew and from my thoughts come embers

٣٠. سَأُذكي لَهُ بَينَ المُلوكِ مَجامِراً
فَمِن ذِكرِهِ نَدٌّ وَمِن فِكرِيَ الجَمرِ

31. You remained to reform the religion, Salah ad-Din
God consciousness accompanies you and victory serves you

٣١. بَقَيتَ صَلاحَ الدينِ لِلدينِ مُصلِحاً
تُصاحِبُكَ التَقوى وَيَخدُمُكَ النَصرُ

32. Take this praise in summary for I
Am unable to detail it and I have an excuse

٣٢. وَخُذ جُمَلاً هَذا الثَناءَ فَإِنَّني
لَأَعجَزُ عَن تَفصيلِهِ وَلِيَ العُذرُ

33. I am the one in my time who says
When he speaks, he surpasses speakers, and no boasting

٣٣. عَلى أَنَّني في عَصرِيَ القائِلُ الَّذي
إِذا قالَ بَزَّ القائِلينَ وَلا فَخرُ

34. By my life - you made eloquent who was silenced
Thanks to you, O Lord of dew, and thanks

٣٤. لَعَمرِيَ قَد أَنطَقتَ مَن كانَ مُفحَماً
لَكَ الحَمدُ يارَبَّ النَدى وَلَكَ الشُكرُ
