You have from Allah a close, beloved patron

لك الله من وال ولي مقرب

1. You have from Allah a close, beloved patron
So how many a day made pleasing for you has passed

١. لَكَ اللَهُ مِن والٍ وَلِيٍّ مُقَرَّبِ
فَكَم لَكَ مِن يَومٍ أَغَرَّ مُحَبَّبِ

2. You have achieved glory forbidden in the world
With the highest house in the heights adorned

٢. حَلَلتَ مِنَ المَجدِ المُمَنَّعِ في الوَرى
بِأَرفَعِ بَيتٍ في العَلاءِ مُطَنَّبِ

3. Every Caesar falls short of the likes of him
And every conqueror is defeated by the likes of him

٣. يُقَصِّرُ عَن أَمثالِهِ كُلُّ قَيصَرٍ
وَيُغلَبُ عَن أَمثالِهِ كُلُّ أَغلَبِ

4. So O seeker of generosity without your own skin
I advise you, do not weary yourself or keep asking

٤. فَيا طالِباً لِلجودِ مِن غَيرِ جَلدَكٍ
نَصَحتُكَ لا تَتعَب وَلا تَتَطَلَّبِ

5. A generous one, when he descends to his valley you will find him
As was said about the family of the slain generous one

٥. جَوادٌ مَتى تَحلُل بِواديهِ تَلقَهُ
كَما قيلَ في آلِ الجَوادِ المُهَلَّبِ

6. More right to what Ibn Qais said to Malik
And worthier of what Ibn Aws said to Mus'ab

٦. أَحَقُّ بِما قالَ ابنُ قَيسٍ لِمالِكٍ
وَأَولى بِما قالَ ابنُ أَوسٍ لِمُصعَبِ

7. And had Al-Ijli seen his grandfather he would not have affiliated
To Ikrimah the Bountiful, ever and Hushab

٧. وَلَو شاهَدَ العِجلِيُّ جَدواهُ ما اِنتَمى
لِعِكرِمَةَ الفَيّاضِ يَوماً وَحَوشَبِ

8. Holding to fine character while some of them
Are frequently changing like a cask pouring out

٨. مُقيمٌ عَلى الخُلقِ الجَميلِ وَبَعضُهُم
كَثيرُ اِستِحالاتٍ كَحَرباءِ تَنضُبِ

9. Words you ransom with the prime chiefs
And you worship their excellence, nomadic Arabs being Arabized

٩. مَقالٌ تُفَدّيهِ أَوائِلُ وائِلٍ
وَتَعبُدُهُ حُسناً أَعارِبُ يَعرُبِ

10. He is the fresh, fragrant flower in whose headcloth
Or the wet pearl that is not yet pierced

١٠. هُوَ الزَهَرُ الغَضُّ الَّذي في كِمامِهِ
أَوِ اللُؤلُؤُ الرَطبُ الَّذي لَم يُثَقَّبِ

11. My intimate curved me away from the skin of your torso
Relieve the suffering heart's yearnings

١١. خَليلَيَّ عوجا بي عَلى النَدبِ جَلدِكٍ
أَقَضِّ لُباناتِ الفُؤادِ المُعَذَّبِ

12. A glorious youth whose palms' gifts are pure
So do not mention me after them, O mother of Jundab

١٢. فَتىً ماجِدٌ طابَت مَواهِبُ كَفِّهِ
فَلا تُذكِراني بَعدَها أُمَّ جُندَبِ
