1. The gray hairs descended, and indeed
They settled in my temples, with no doubt

2. And I wept when youthfulness departed
Alas! Alas! For its departing

3. By Allah, tell me, O companion
And for me to say and for me to ask

4. Do you want, in your seventies, what
You used to do in your twenties?

5. Never! No, by Allah, this
Is not the talk of one rational

6. You used to be excused for youth
And today that excuse is gone

7. You indulged yourself in vain
So until when will you accept the false?

8. It has gone from other than what
You show of play and phases

9. You wasted this long time
And did not gain anything useful from it
