1. The flattering one promised a visit,
And my heart was in anguish due to speaking eyelids,

2. Indeed I love beauty wherever I find it,
And I rave about the slender, tall one and fall in love,

3. And my camel saddle has on it a docile she-camel,
Like a sandy hill with a firmly fixed tent peg.

4. O you who blame me, I am the one whose talk you heard,
May you have mercy or perhaps you will be gentle.

5. If you were with us when you hear or see,
You would see how the garment of patience is torn.

6. And you would see the most gentle of lovers complaining,
And you would wonder at one who does not love and fall in love.

7. Do the blamers accuse me of patience towards him?
Yet his life is more precious to my heart and I am more compassionate.

8. If they denounce or frighten or procrastinate,
I will not turn away, not stop, not separate.

9. I will forever increase in yearning as I near union,
Like a pendant on the neck of a beautiful maiden that shakes.

10. And his actions increase me in dissolution so I remember
Like musk, if crushed by palms, it will perfume.

11. O my killer, I am compassionate towards you,
O one I love, I long for you.

12. And a group has spread that I reconciled with you,
O Lord, may they not live for that or remain.

13. Nothing made the blamers hope
Except that out of fear for you I flatter them.

14. And if I promised you a happy glance,
Then witness against me that I do not speak truthfully.

15. Why is your heart not the heart that
Used to be for me, the loving, compassionate one?

16. And I think your cheek was gloating over our separation
For I looked at it distorted and frown.

17. And I strove for the heights with determination,
My endeavor concludes that it cannot be attained.

18. And I traveled by night as if its stars
Were intensely staring at me due to their jealousy.

19. Until I reached the pavilion of the king who
Kings stand at his door begging.

20. And I stood before the king of time in a stand
Where I found the heart of fate pulsating therein.

21. So to you, O star of the sky, I
Have seen the star of religion brilliantly shine for me.

22. The good king, whose era
Has beauty that bewilders time and gives it splendor.

23. A king who brings tidings of his father and grandfather,
A pillar, by your life, in the heights that cannot be attained.

24. To him even eyes prostrated in awe
Or do you not see them lowered when he comes?

25. Of spacious resolve, flourishing are his sides,
So many plains and meadows are next to him.

26. Life without being in his precincts is miserable
And sustenance, without his hands, is constrained.

27. O might of one who has become affiliated with him
And height of one who has held fast to him by night.

28. I swear the fine traits are not affectations in him
Nor is the noble nature pretended.

29. He calls the delegations to his wealth, it is as if
He calls for its dissolution for it becomes fragmented.

30. His steeds forever yearn for the wilderness,
For them there is longing and desire.

31. The stringed instruments reveal their harmony for his authority
Drums dance and swords clap.

32. In his shining sword’s sheath, a brave, intrepid blade
Under the sheath, like a rising full moon.

33. It irrigates the spears with the blood of enemies in battle
Thus it bears fruit with heads and becomes verdant.

34. He goes forth, preceding his army in awe,
An army that overwhelms time and illuminates it.

35. He filled hearts with awe and love
So courage is feared and virtues loved.

36. His steeds will tour the regions of the lands
And for him, in each expanse, there is a meeting place.

37. I am at your service, O one whose command has no opponent
And if the lame is called, he will not resist.

38. I am at your service, O best of kings among them
And most honored one, the dainty are challenged to him.

39. A thousand times, O king who
His gifts have brought together hearts that were separated.

40. You were just until none in the land were wronged,
And you were generous until none were left wanting.

41. I am the one you called and I responded hastily,
This praise is for him as are these words.

42. I found a market for virtues and loftiness,
So I knew generosity overflows therein.

43. O you, when promising a wish, hands immediately fulfill it,
His gifts say he speaks truthfully and keeps his word.

44. O you, I rejected people when I met him,
To the point I thought they were not even created.

45. I tied my mounts in Egypt, heading towards you,
While others roam a land or head east.

46. And I resided with you when I resided in a stronghold,
Where a demon and ghost are confronted.

47. And people became certain that after it
I will never attain the highest ranks.

48. So I was granted what they were not granted and I spoke what
They did not speak and attained what they did not attain.
