1. O you who often spurns and turns away
I'm content with how you are, come what may
١. يا كَثيرَ الصُدودِ وَالإِعراضِ
أَنا راضٍ بِما بِهِ أَنتَ راضِ
2. Please my love, tell me in God's name
Where is that acceptance, where is that ease
٢. هاتِ بِاللهِ يا حَبيبي قُل لي
أَينَ ذاكَ الرِضا وَأَينَ التَغاضي
3. And who of all people makes you displeased
With me? By God, none takes such offense!
٣. وَبِمَن في الأَنامِ تَعتاضُ عَمَّن
عَنكَ وَاللَهِ لَيسَ بِالمُعتاضِ
4. For you I gained fame and much talk
Flowing from a tearful eye's welling stalk
٤. سارَ لِيَ فيكَ شُهرَةٌ وَحَديثٌ
مُستَفيضٌ مِن مَدمَعٍ فَيّاضِ
5. And a heart that lost all patience and calm
Eyelids that ceased their collected charm
٥. وَفُؤادٌ أَضحى بِغَيرِ اِصطِبارٍ
وَجُفونٌ أَمسَت بِغَيرِ اِغتِماضِ
6. I have a need, dear, to ask of you
Yet shyly I stay, my lips askew
٦. إِنَّ لي حاجَةً إِلَيكَ وَإِنّي
في حَياءٍ عَن ذِكرِها وَاِنقِباضِ
7. A need, since I wanted, I in consent
Declined, while you cared not to relent
٧. حاجَةً مُذ أَرَدتُها أَنا في التَع
ريضِ عَنها وَأَنتَ في الإِعراضِ
8. My hope in you a mere glance has rent
That was future, and this is past tense
٨. أَمَلي فيكَ دونَهُ سَيفُ لَحظٍ
ذاكَ مُستَقبَلٌ وَهَذاكَ ماضي
9. I desire your promised word to hence
Let life in wants and needs come to an end
٩. أَشتَهي أَن أَفوزَ مِنكَ بِوَعدٍ
وَدَعِ العُمرَ يَنقَضي في التَقاضي
10. This my tale, my talk, my attended send
Yours the choice, fulfill what you intend
١٠. هَذِهِ قِصَّتي وَهَذا حَديثي
وَلَكَ الأَمرُ فَاِقضِ ما أَنتَ قاضي
