1. Forgive time for its follies,

Except when it longs for its markings.

5. Oh you who does wondrous deeds, whose traits resound,
And who adorns the world with the beauty of your traits.

6. Rather, you are righteous in your forbearance and composure,
Like a firm mountain in your composure.

7. You are the Kaaba of kindness, the Kaaba of generosity,
And water divides its drinking in shares.

8. If you were absent from the country, you were never
Absent from my thoughts, as you are one of its notions.

10. Carrying our prayers in its folds.

11. I loved your trip, which by its arrival,
Reunited generosity after its dispersion.

12. And the two angels increased you in esteem,
Like a sword sharpened after the bluntness of its edge.

13. It sufficed for them to care for you, so each one
Wanted you to belong to his being.

14. And when a serious man determines,
Stillness takes over from his actions.

15. And the messenger came, and if it was allowed for one of us,
He would have shared with him the sweetness of his life.

16. So decide, and leave no position,
That leads to the highest ranks, unattempted.

17. And three branches of glory branched out from you,
Like the three branches of Orion in its sides.

18. Every guided one from you became in his cradle
Rising to his ancestors in his traits.

19. Al-Musharri conveyed good tidings to him,
And Bahram protected him from his assaults.

20. A group gained victory in the wilderness,
And he among them is like the tooth above the gum.

21. They are the excellent elite of the elite,
And the best elite of all elites.

22. The time gained nobility with each summons from them,
Awakened, and the most high forgot his lapses.

23. He befriended benevolence and saw the necessity of maintaining ties,
Out of generosity, not out of duty to maintain ties.

24. He comes to death and wishes like a lion in
Its forests, and rain in its hidden places.

25. A man of determination, if he travels on his journeys,
Indian swords spill from his sword’s sheath.

26. Oh you whose way is kindness, my words
Have been silent towards you for a time, and you called me from your rite.

27. This is your Zuhair, not Zuhair son of Muzenah,
Who came to you, not bent over from his illnesses.

28. Leave him and his ups and downs, and listen
To the Zuhair of your time, and the beauty of his poems.
