1. The Messenger feared reproach
So he hinted at Sa’diyya instead of her actual name

2. And he came to mention in hadith
Raamah as a water-drawer for Raamah

3. And I understood from him an allusion
That my beloved had sent as a token

4. So I was disturbed until I became
Intoxicated, madness playing with me

5. Take, O Messenger, my love messages
For in love I am like Kab ibn Maamah

6. And repeat your hadith for it is
Sweeter than the cooing of a dove

7. Give me good news, for this day
Judgement has been passed on the lover

8. O you who comes from a journey of long
Absence, peace be upon you

9. And you stayed in that distant place, and dwelling there
Was pleasant for you

10. O you who exclusively belongs
To my Master, passion clings to you

11. O you who wants love for me
And whom I want to honor

12. My Master, the Sultan of beauty
And no darkness is unveiled for me

13. I saw him, and he was like
A delicate, erect branch

14. With a beauty mark on his cheek
I became among lovers a Shanmah

15. O his waist, O his hips
Who will get for me Najd or Tihama
