1. A coastal wilderness, sorrowful
Its scattering is scattered

١. بريَّةٌ بحريَّةٌ حَزْنيةٌ
سهيلةٌ منثورُها منثورُها

2. In it joy is complete for whoever is in it
One day it lasted as its wall was completed

٢. متكاملٌ فيها السرورُ لمن بها
يوماً أقامَ كما تكاملَ سورُها

3. And the hearts of its palaces were emptied, so they laughed
When its thankful one lived and its ungrateful one died

٣. وخلَتْ قلوبُ قصورِها فاستضحكتْ
إذْ عاشَ شاكرُها وماتَ كفورُها

4. Whoever settled in it attained the connection of its beloved
And it healed the intimate of the soul from it his condition

٤. مَنْ حَلَّ فيها نالَ وَصْلَ حبيبها
وشفى كليمَ الروحِ منهُ طورُها

5. It is nothing but the paradise of the present world, and oh!
Its boys, its houries were uncovered to you

٥. ما تلك إلاّ جنَّةُ الدنيا وها
ولدانُها جُلِيَتْ عليكَ وحورُها

6. So it is open, elderly, and sociable
Its outskirts, its gardens and its palaces

٦. فمضيَّةٌ وسنيَّةٌ ونديَّةٌ
أرجاؤُها ورياضُها وقصورُها

7. When it wept, the clouds of its worries disappeared
It laughed and happiness lived its flowers

٧. لما بكى فقدَ الهمومِ سحابُها
ضحكتْ وقدْ عاشَ السرورَ زهورُها

8. So the land from it is brocade and its ornaments
Swords were drawn and the swords are its light

٨. فالأرضُ منها سندسٌ وخلالَهُ
سُلَّتْ سيوفٌ والسيوفُ نهورُها

9. It is the abode of the kingdom of contentment, so because of this
Its curtains were dropped down from worries

٩. هيَ دارُ مملكةِ الرضى فلأجلِ ذا
قد أُسْبِلَتْ دونَ الهمومِ ستورُها

10. The good arts were collected in its sides
And its fragrance rose above the gentle musk

١٠. جُمعتْ فنونُ الطيبِ في أفنانِها
وعلا على المِسْكِ الذَّكيِّ عبيرُها

11. Its pearls tell, their coquetry white
With their glances, their charm and their languor

١١. تحكي دُماها غيدُها البيضُ الألى
بلحاظهن فتونُها وفتورُها

12. What a gentle chain its downpour watered!
And delight over pebbles the lightening of its river

١٢. ما سلسلٌ عذبٌ سقاه وابل
وهناً فويقَ حصى بروقِ غديرها

13. So with a separation and polishing it negated
From it the motes, the breeze of morning and its passing

١٣. فنفى بتفريكٍ وصقلٍ مذهبٍ
عنه القذى ريحُ الصّبا ومرورُها

14. With the most delicious taste than their pillows when
They smile about a pearl that shines with its rotation

١٤. بألذَّ طعماً مِنْ مَراشفهنَّ إذ
تَبْسَمْنَ عَن دُرٍّ يضيءُ بدورُها

15. Those are the lips, and tears of their lovers have
Knitted necklaces that their chests contain

١٥. تلكَ الثغورُ ودمعُ عاشِقهنّ قد
حاكَتْ عقوداً تحتويه نحورُها

16. How many coquettish European women were in it
Who were females and their glances were its masculinity

١٦. كمْ كان فيها للفرنجِ كواعبٌ
كانتْ إناثاً واللحاظُ ذكورُها

17. And swaying, watering wine as if
From its eyelashes and cheeks it pours it

١٧. ومهفهفٍ يَسقي السلافَ كأنما
مِنْ مقلتيهِ ووجنتيهِ يديرُها

18. Is its fire in its cup or its cup
In its fire and over the houses its light?

١٨. هلْ نارُها في كاسِها أم كاسُها
في نارِها وعلى المنازلِ نورُها

19. The applause of its rebel against its obedient one a twinkling
Its branches when its birds tightened them

١٩. تصفيقُ عاصيها المطيعِ مرقِّصٌ
أغصانَها لمَّا شَدَتْهُ طيورُها

20. So its lands are guarded and its slopes
Are frequented, its publication does not fold

٢٠. فربوعُها محروسةٌ وسفوحُها
مأنوسةٌ لا ينطوي منشورُها

21. So wonder about a land like the luminous sky
Its suns and its full moons began to appear

٢١. فاعجبْ لأرضٍ كالسماءِ منيرةٍ
أضحتْ تلوح شموسُها وبدورُها

22. So its outskirts smiled and breathed
A breaths, so the tender branch has no peer

٢٢. فتبَسَّمَتْ وتَنَسَّمَتْ أرجاؤُها
أرجاً فما الغصنُ النضيرُ نظيرُها

23. I preceded at the White one in its range
A blond bowed, so its conscience calmed

٢٣. سابَقْتُ بالبيضاءِ في ميدانها
شقراءَ جلِّق فاستكنَّ ضميرُها
