1. Turn away talk of merchandise though feverish with gain,
And mention the allurement of tender loves or their perfume.

5. Homes honored because the chosen Prophet halted there,
A blessing to badw and hadar alike.

6. If he smiles at night say to his smile,
"O wakeful lightning, waken the sleeping full moon!"

7. O clouds, enough rain for me if you water the tribe of Mudar,
Alive with showers from the “Anaza” camels.

8. What matter if enemies are ignorant when the wise
Bear necklaces though the sightless spurn pearls?

9. He ascended and Gabriel served him on the night journey,
Saying by his actions to the Mudari,

10. "I never traveled but a phantom of you went with me,
An apparition preceding and following my tracks.

11. If my camel's saddle rested atop a star
I would still find there one of your images awaiting me."

12. The Corner kissed grew blacker in its blackness
When he kissed its dark stones, darker still to eye and heart.

13. You made the fresh rose occupy your breast and did not spurn it,
Though the too-sweet is spurned for the drunkard's excess.

15. Men and jinn—O most splendid of created beings—both came
To beg of you a hint of affection and the houris.

16. You did not cease to advise souls that denied and rebelled,
But forgave their rejection of your jewels.

17. O you whose bounty encompasses the world and its people,
No lovely ornament lacks luster beside your beauty.

18. You left no part of the straying herd useless—
Neither the roe nor the slow ox without burdens to bear.

19. When the gazelle interceded she escaped and gained
Thankfulness among the wild sheep and goats.

20. Many a long-haired chief in silk robes
Once strutted though clad in a woolen aba.

21. You beautified the woven verses praising you;
A home with you well-peopled by valor.

22. Beauty shows in two things its elegance—
A bayt of verse or a tent of hair.

23. I interwove praising God's Messenger joyfully
And the birds marveled hearing me sing without wings.

24. My eyeballs in yearning toward his chamber
Are like the two flasks—from sustenance and withholding.

25. When I recall my sins' long tales
I am as a doe atop the mound alert for hunting.

26. I hope they are not linked with others,
For that's a sin beyond forgiving.

27. The generous erases every evil deed
With clemency, veiling it in fair and foul.

28. Whenever not Sa'd's my heart exults in a tribe,
It is the heart of a wary bird in fright's abode.

29. By God, if all the world's people were just like Fusayy,
Glory would still lie with Mudar!

30. O soul, despair not the Garden's winning, for I
Know One who will satisfy me however the matter falls.

31. My deadly foe is when dawn shows the sky to be
Like the tract of low ground in barren stony wastes,

32. While the share-alike of bounty on high or low ground
Is like the rain dividing the star from the tree.

34. Whoever sees him wholeheartedly believes him real
As wounds attest the sword's sharp effectiveness.

35. Let no man with mere human attributes distract you

41. The Household and Companions between them find no harm
Like the rift between knight, steed, and footman.

Let deviants therefrom be cursed thorns in the rosebeds!

43. Your right hand rains Hellfire on enemies, while from your left
Wells up water enough for the gathered throng.

44. I never thought any palm but God's Messenger's
Could be folded over fire and neither burn nor char.

45. Stand at the narrow bridge, else how can we walk
The razor's edge, or race barefoot over embers?

46. You are foremost in creation and last to die—
That precedence lies not in being first to the goal.

47. Woe to those who disbelieved you or called you a liar in ignorance,
Who did not see you with an inner eye that verifies!

48. If they deemed slight the star's descent—it was their eyes' blame,
Not the star's, for appearing small.

49. Past prophets had partisans, but none like your two,
Abu Bakr and ‘Umar, men firm and upright.

50. Camels swore off grazing out of devotion to you
Till they saw you, healing them of trypanosomes.

51. What sun's heat harms the one warded at noonday
By a cloud that rains not but protects the sun?

52. I praised you hoping for intercession, not aides
Devious as a she-camel's trailing rope.

53. O Granter, your giving only increases your wealth,
While copious rain makes the downpour's duration short.

54. To the Throne's Lord you once gave a hundred
Camels, each one like a noon sun in brilliance.

55. Gabriel showed you reverence confidently
When a people showed you mere pretense of reverence.

56. Mighty though youthful—consistent marvel!
You disdained worldly glitter for an abiding home.

57. You routed armies with motes though their eyes
Could barely discern the sparks' quick flashes.

58. If longing clove my heart—you dwell there—
So the heart cloven makes the sword's edge keener.

59. O Seal of Prophets, the righteous had lacked
Benefit and harm's finality before you came.

60. How many nations awaited your appearance
As they now await the Feast Day return from a journey!

61. Ask and you are given; intercede and you intercede. What you wish comes about.
Had you wished you could have moved Safety to the new year.

62. You left deprived the year's last days slipping by futilely,
Not adding to our remnant of days.

63. Be then my intercessor and my provision for the world to come
When I rise from my grave all in want.

64. Abandon me not to words, deeds,
Or weighing my works, for I have no merit.

65. My master, my body is too weak for hot torment—
Have compassion on my brokenness, O Healer of the shattered!

66. I hope in you from the Lord of the Throne for well-being
In family, state, the exalted, and in age.

67. Upon you from God be the best salutations
As moons arise and leaves stir in the trees.
