1. O you who brought beauty together, for how long
Will you be indifferent to my longing throughout time?
١. يا جامعَ الحسْنِ أما
لصدِّكَ الدهرَ أمدُ
2. For you, I have tears that never ceased,
And eyes that never slept a day.
٢. لي فيكَ دمعٌ ما رقا
يوماً وطرفٌ ما رقدْ
3. Your radiant beauty, its noble tradition,
Shot an arrow into my heart, from your glance that never knew sleep.
٣. جمالُكَ الزاهي السنا
حديثُهُ العالي السند
4. He who saw the flowing hair coming from you
Should prostrate himself before God.
٤. سهماً إلى قلبي رمى
طرفُكَ لا ذاقَ رمَدْ
5. Your cheek was protected by water,
Else it would have ignited by fire.
٥. ومَنْ رأى شعراً سجا
منكَ فللهِ سجدْ
6. Glory to the Lord who created
Your lips, purer than ice.
٦. خدُّكَ بالماءِ اتقى
لولاهُ بالنارِ اتقدْ
7. Your frown, how much agony did faces
Feel because of it, and how much passion and fervor!
٧. سبحانَ ربٍّ قدْ برى
ثغرَكَ أصفى مِن بَرَدْ
8. My love is old, and over it
My sleep has never gained victory.
٨. مُضْناكَ كم قاسى وجى
فيكَ وكمْ وجدٍ وجدْ
9. My passions have no end,
Nor does my devotion have limits.
٩. عشقي قديمٌ قدْ طرا
عليهِ ما نومي طرَدْ
10. From his glance, a sword unsheathed,
And from his mouth, a home furnished.
١٠. ليسَ لأشواقي مدى
ولا لسلواني مدَدْ
11. None who fell in love tasted
What I tasted of yearning from him.
١١. مِنْ طرفه سيفاً نضا
مِنْ ثغرِهِ داراً نضَدْ
12. O my tormentor! You are most unfair,
And for the blamers, a lesson to be learned!
١٢. ما ذاقَ ذو وجدٍ كما
قدْ ذقتُ فيهِ مِنْ كمدْ
13. For I met all vanishing
In some of his dignity.
١٣. يا عذَّلي أنتمْ عدى
وللملمّاتِ عددْ
١٤. لأنني كلُّ الفنا
ألقاهُ منْ بعضِ الفندْ
