1. Quench my thirst, though the night has lost its light
For the absence of the moon amid the clouds
١. أَلا فَاسْقِني واللًّيْلُ قَدْ غابَ نورُهُ
لِغَيْبَةِ بَدْرٍ في الغَمامِ غَريقِ
2. And lightning has lit up the darkness as if
It were a longing, burning heart
٢. وقَدْ فَضَحَ الظَّلْماءَ بَرْقٌ كَأَنَّهُ
فُؤادُ مَشوقٌ مولَعٌ بِخَفوقِ
3. We drink it in as light embodied
And fire unburning
٣. نُعايِنُها نوراً جَلاهُ تَجَسُّدٌ
ونَشْرَبُها ناراً بِغَيْرِ حَريقِ
4. As if the bubbles in the wine glass
Were pearls in an agate sky
٤. كَأَنَّ حَبابَ الكَأْسِ في جَنَباتِها
كَواكِبُ دُرٍّ في سَماءِ عَقيقِ
