Bound by passion, its devil is insatiate

2. It roams every valley with no restraint
With the beautiful ones, serious and jest are sweet

3. What can I say, my poetry found refuge
In grace, flourishing, kohl-lined

4. O master of creation, I came to apologize
You are the fragrance, they are garlic and onions

5. God knows the heart you dwell in
You are love, they are error and slip

6. My soul is ransom for you and all my loved ones
I believe, the truth is what the messengers brought

7. Your station of love is too high for me to compare
What are the sun, Mars or Saturn to you

8. It is enough that you are God’s beloved
With intercession, you are hope and dreams

9. Without you the land is disabled
Barren, you are its valiant knight

10. Your religion is the truth, the Quran details it
And without it, the land is locked in darkness

11. Jesus and Moses are brothers to Ahmad by lineage
and religion, guidance—if the denominations know

12. Your balance is justice, Gabriel carries it
And justice is the best founding principle of nations

13. O most merciful of people to humanity altogether
Eve, Eve pleads to you, and man

14. My master, passion invades my talent
I complain to you while my heart quakes and shakes

15. I ask God’s forgiveness for an ignorance I repeat
Audibly, bowing down in my tears to wash myself clean

16. Does God forgive a sin that I admit to
Even if seldom or deeds do not assist?

17. Or exonerate a person whose life is façade
Misguidance, guile and sickness

18. A soul yearns for a shrine of refuge I resort to
I came confessing, crying and imploring

19. It is time for the heart to meet its beloved ones
To God, to God it seeks guidance and connects

20. If a praising poet has any gift
After today, my poetry will be made whole through you

21. How obedient is poetry in praising the beloved, whenever
I called upon it, it came guided for me to improvise

22. Its Master—the nation of Taha lost hold
Of a rope you commanded, so strategies collapsed

23. And its children wandered hungry, narrow to them
Were neighbor, abode, desert and mountain alike

24. A generation that tasted humiliation’s tyranny in a homeland
Whose history holds examples of glory and pride

25. It makes do with despicable, lowly humiliation
While its land has wheat, petroleum and honey

26. And the generation became, in the invaders’ eyes
Seen like ostriches—no birds or camels
