No, for one who lacks a thing cannot grant it

And the Jafnas allied with the Romans

6. The sensible among them worshipped idols
Crying to them in complaint and lament

7. The noblest of the people were those whose daughters they buried alive
And considered it pride and lived off what they looted

8. What was the Basous and the strife it caused
Except evidence that their thinking was troubled

9. Yes, what else was the worth of his camel
That the blood of the living poured over it

10. And the first victims among the people were their masters
Kulayb, then slaughter came in waves after him

11. For forty years, if the fires of war subsided
The fires of hatred kept burning

12. If you doubt the account of their ways
Then seek the truth in the tales of those who left

13. Ask Dahis and Ghubayra about their wager
And how grimness and Dhubyan were ruined by it

14. Fifty years the fires of war did not cease
Both sides prayed but its flames were not quenched

15. And ask Bani Qayla about the affliction of Bani Baq'a
In which the Indian woman held sway

16. And about Bauath and Malaqouh and the calamities
From which hatred and anger were born

17. So they went about senselessly harvesting each other
Kinship and lineage did not benefit them

18. This is an example from history I relate
As the chronicles and books have conveyed it

19. And if we wanted to limit it we could not
For they persisted in this way, it was their habit

20. But the One who has charge of us...in His mercy
Did not leave affairs chaotic, sought by the people

21. Rather, God organized them through Islam
A law whose purpose is reform, not plunder

22. It spread through the lands carrying
To the wilderness a method that must be followed

23. Its history beginning with Allah's Messenger
And anything else is wholly falsehood and lies

24. For he emerged upon the world with his mission
And without him no virtuous cause existed

25. So God unified their division through Islam
At his hands, and in unifying them is wonder

26. And there were those feats of valor by which they inclined
From evil towards good they turned

27. You will not find a page shining with justice
Except that they authored it with their hands

28. Nor did the books of history relate a glory
Except that they struck with the arrow of victory

29. Virtues that time will continue remembering
With pride that our ruins have erected

30. Ask the fire-worshipper, did his worship
Avail his throne when the resolute army came?

31. Did his hallmarked crown, when Sa'd came
And behind Sa'd the noble commanders

32. Battalions set out with guidance teachings
To spread them where doubt and skepticism reigned

33. They left no memorial to the Persian rulers
When they leapt against ugly Magianism

34. And Syria where Caesar fled
And behind him the Romans and Arabs fled

35. And when Islam descended upon their court
Damascus embraced it and Aleppo surrendered

36. They came to Jerusalem in God's name and were victorious
Had they come in Qahtan's name they would not have won

37. Facts for reasonable people I mention
As their eras succeeded in relating them to us

38. Amr ibn al-Aas came while the Kunanas were unbelievers
With idols erected in all its regions

39. He set about inviting to Allah's religion following
The path of the Messenger and his excellent tradition

40. Egypt accepted Islam, joined
Its bond, and adopted all that was incumbent

41. After Egypt the convoy of guidance went forward
With zeal to Ifriqiya it was dispatched

42. They went from the Nile heading west, carrying
To those lands the light, chased by the flames

43. God blessed their effort and enabled them
Against every tyrant who commits injustice

44. They ruled with justice when they ruled
And people undoubtedly incline towards justice

45. And religion demands elevating its principle
So their affairs were as they were, and they dispatched

46. Men from among them who established an empire
Whose glories chronicles and literature registered

47. If only Tariq had not left his encampment
And those with him had not boarded ships

48. And not invaded Andalusia in God's cause
And not ransomed when wealth and booty called

49. If only the falcon of Quraysh had remained hidden
Amused by anxiety or amused by joy

50. If only their souls could be returned to them and they could see
They would die of sorrow at what the future does

51. Perhaps one who reads history can inform me
Is there strangeness in a mother's poem for her son?

52. She saw him crying and said, do you cry for a realm
You lost, and over which today you lament?

53. O poetry, stand still as I compare their ignorance
Before guidance, then see what they gained through guidance

54. And the ignorance of people who live by
Seventy creeds yet ascribe themselves to Islam

55. The ignorant, despite the woes of ignorance
Would not accept oppression if they were despoiled

56. While today's leaders nothing stirs them
Even if trampled in mud and stained with filth

57. Scattered in America, Arabs to it
Its slaves, and Russia has Arabs its

58. Hypocrites, but who will deter them
When most of the people have sipped its poison?

59. Yesterday Andalusia was dragged to execution
By force and the ruling executed by usurpers

60. And today the people of Jerusalem, your sanctuary, are slaughtered
And they violate whatever they wish whenever they desire

61. If only Abu Jahl would come to your aid
Do you not see Abu Jahl is the reason?

62. O poetry, stand still, for eras have encircled me
Stop where you are, for exhaustion has worn me out

63. And I have not found, except through religion, a battle
In which the Arabs bested their enemies

64. Indeed through Islam is the glory of Arabism
For if it declines, no glory or Arabs remain
