1. He who taught poetry its rhythms and meters
And instilled in the heart joys and sorrows

2. And taught love that the heart is its course
If it withheld its outpouring, it would die of thirst

3. And taught the tear that the eyelid is its home
So it pleaded with longing upon the cheek untrue

4. And taught knowledge that the heart is its dwelling
And the intellect is light, else it remains perplexed

5. And taught the earth that rain gives it life
Without it, it would not don roses and basil

6. And taught the sea to sing to its sailor
Though he voyage far, in pearls and coral

7. And taught the shining moon that from
The sun's light at dawn comes its brightness and hues

8. And taught the intellect things and distinguished it
From all else, so the intellect became a balance

9. In what it can bear and comprehend, it spoke truly
Otherwise, it bowed to God in faith

10. And taught the bird to sing in melodies
Stirring passions and sentiments

11. And taught the star to journey and taught us
By its guide, our happiness and misery

12. If another than You, my Master, taught it
Let him bring proof and evidence

13. Glory be to You, O God, we have no knowledge or deed
Without You, O Lord of the Glorious Throne
