1. A struggle, but not with sword and spear,
For that is frightening, bearing perdition.

2. A struggle, but through meetings of leaders,
For naught but them will humiliate and cow us.

3. A struggle, but by an eloquent preacher,
Who gives us hope of triumph or blessing,

4. When he ascends the pulpit, his voice
Becomes a roaring lion bent on havoc.

5. Lazing about like those who shun the fray,
Living this way brings those who hoard riches.

6. A struggle, but the Security Council's hall
Is the battlefield, and its knight overwhelmed us.

7. A struggle which lost honor, land and blood,
And left behind lasting sickness in our hearts,

8. Which scattered the unity of Arabs everywhere,
Until they became the most wretched of peoples.

9. And tore them apart until their enemy
Held them in contempt, and on their ruins built.

10. He adds at will and does as he desires,
Seeing the land an open, free dwelling.

11. While we remain chaff, scattered about,
Wasting away from prolonged adversity.

12. Or the awakened leader of an advance
To a place still an unknown abode.

13. A struggle for whom? What do you intend, o strugglers,
May God shepherd whoever proved loyal.

14. Do you intend, after victory, to implement
The law Allah ordained in the Book He made clear?

15. Or are you replacing His code
With a system the devil established and enacted?

16. If the first, then your struggle is worthy
Of victory that brings security and prosperity.

17. The hostile foe is disgraced if he transgresses,
And he who acts righteously and well is honored.

18. But if the latter, the most deserving among you
Of what the devil spun and firmly anchored,

19. I see the people of Moses, discord never united them,
Not language, race or color brought them near.

20. But their faith united and joined them together,
Just as Islam united us before it.

21. So we were, after enmities, brothers through it,
And through it the most exalted of people.

22. So inform the factions for us that we
Live an era, God suffices as our Lord.

23. Its least tribulation is the conflict we see,
And most is the humiliation that has ruled us.
