1. Man strives, yet death is swifter
And fate brings joy and sorrow in between

2. Our destiny is guided by the Omnipotent
Where He chooses, not where we expect

3. O nation who grieves the loss of its leader
And the powers of misguidance gather to rob it

4. Fate has been fulfilled, no created being can prevent
That which cannot be averted

5. Had his beauty accepted ransom
Souls of Arabs would pay it with tears

6. But the wisdom of our Lord in His creation
Is convincing proof for believers

7. And your Lord chose a helper for His neighbors
As trust is reclaimed

8. O man, none has attained the high esteem
You enjoyed from the love he possessed

9. Your loss pained all consciences
As if a stake pierced each heart

10. Before your loss, I was my people's poet
Composing verses however I wished

11. Now I no longer weigh rhyme as I desire
Nor place meanings as I choose

12. When alone, I feel the resolve crumbling
What can I say, when my patience is tested and found futile

13. I tried to stop the tears by perseverance
But failed, and weeping flowed beyond control

14. I beg the poet to excuse me a poem
That jest, though frailty shows through my ribs

15. I cry from the bitter separation
But despite tears, I do not despair

16. I will not record his date here
His record is studded with virtues

17. Arabs know his merits and jihad
Like rain wherever it strikes parched land

18. I ask all I meet: Will our sun rise again
After its setting?

19. And can the bereaved, after the leader is lost
Regain what the tyrants stole and return it?

20. You gave Arabism value it lacked
Since the Caliphate or any lofty position

21. Until you lit the way, so it became
Aspiring indeed to every virtue

22. People disagree in their views
But agree in loving you

23. An Arab nation, whose enemy still desecrates its sanctuary, lost you

Where are the crowds who listened to him
