1. Your soul ransoms an ailing, sorrowful afflicted one
Medicine is his consolation, and the sorrowful sympathizes

2. His prolonged grief has weakened him such that
Due to his extreme emaciation, the grieving speak of him

3. The passing breeze shook him, and there blew
The delightful fragrance of sweet breaths

4. As though, when it bends through the North wind
It spreads joyfully the folding of the goblet

5. As though it carried to me a message
Alluring, coming from the dearest of consolers

6. Like a graceful maiden who visited her beloved
After long unavailability and sleeplessness

7. Her smile reveals the charm of her talk
Of the magic of her slumberous eyelids’ sorcery

8. She draws near so her lovers hope for her intimacy
And the glory of her coquetry gestures hopelessness

9. Or a garden whose modesty is enlivened
From the direction of loosened fragrant boughs

10. The morning sang to it, so it danced
Joyfully with sleeves as turbans

11. So I plucked the light of virtue from its leaves
The fragrance of flowers, the scent of plants

12. In its folds there is an abundant sea of magic
In which the place of pearls, expensive diamonds

13. Oh, the wonder! And it is indeed wondrous
How the sea can be contained in a parchment

14. It came to me to fight off passion, so I answered it
With a longing that accompanies me, passions in the evening and morning

15. And it came to remind me of pacts though
My thoughts were not forgetful of the most faithful of people

16. Protector of the sanctuary of literature, Ahmed Fares
In the battleground of intellects, a formidable warrior

17. My Master, the lessons of virtue have given you life
After it was among the weak

18. And the army of rhythm reinstated the banners
And prose with banners from spearheads

19. And I am rendering a fresh, youthful life for literature
Though it has reached the age of despair

20. Its features excel in delicacy over features
And its loftiness has surpassed every high stronghold

21. And its sublimities have become for the people of example
A collar around their necks and crown on their heads

22. Verse adorns its beauty with a beautiful cloak
From which it cockily thrives in the finest garment

23. It still has the support of the generous and protection
From the incidents of the tyrannical cruel time

24. And to you it comes in shy from its shortcomings
Its isolation needs consolation

25. Gracious one who has built the homes of her perfections
From the goodness of your laying bricks atop the best foundation
