1. For the one whose reins are held by the Generous
Who rides across the desert, Generous

2. He buried the ambition of the keen-sighted one
Swift, light of arm, frowning

3. He continues to compete with his shadow
And counts the sons of darkness and the unjust

4. And he came, the bridges of the companions intact
Barefoot, wearing a cloak with markings

5. And a pile of garments for wraps that were set ablaze
By the good fabric of the earth, a fine leather

6. Upon them a gentle shaking and comfort
And no comforter can uncover them a friendly hand

7. Memory shakes them as the memory shook Nadra
From the bosoms, from kindness, a gentle breeze passed

8. They stand where the morning burns its braids
And the blackness of night twists, defeated

9. They seek the environs of ardour where the army visited
With every stale and rotten thing

10. So excellent is the riding of righteousness, humanity and dew
You have been graced and remain in the shades of bliss

11. Show me the noblest scion of creation
Belonging to a lineage among the core of the glorious

12. A dove flutters in his chest toward wellbeing
And he inclines toward the afflicted with intimate inclination

13. I carry toward the living whatever light burden he bears
A pouring of love for the cause, bountiful

14. Greetings as the new moon rose over the meadow
Then brought to the graceful one with fine scent

15. And I complain to him of what was harbored in my wings
Where longing lodged a market of worries

16. Perhaps when he passes the gloom toward ardour
He may tell his people some of my worries

17. And say to the beloved Lu'ayy left grieving
His companions, while the snakes remain unsettled

18. He lingers watching the procession with a glance
Repeating while his soul remains promised and frowning

19. And he conceals passion that almost emerges
With a tear secretly pouring from his frowning essence

20. And the memory of you passes so he knits his brow
Turning away while the depths remain sealed off

21. He holds back the course of tears in fear of the slanderer
Who blames with painful words of blame

22. And O you who guide them gently lower your pace
Go slowly, for some gentleness bears no blame

23. Tomorrow the desert, the travel and the night journey will scatter
Its rivers from the meadows, arrows loosed

24. Gently, just as you raced them, deliver them
To the remnants of the house, though not in remnants

25. Until you unload at good Taybah, its lodging
O good dwelling for the generous guest

26. In the hands of the best whose hospitality
Ties its guy-ropes with fine cord

27. The best of all messengers sent to the best nation
With the best guidance, from excellent stock

28. The prophet whom God guided the servants by his guidance
To His oneness, after many gods revered

29. He emerged upon a night of polytheism spreading
Its portico, the cloak of the bewildered beast

30. He did not stop until east and west shone
With a light that filled the horizons, absolute

31. And clarified the path of truth after the landmarks
Of its signs and symbols were obscured

32. And O my beloved friend, true to his word
That friendship is no base covenant

33. And this is God's book, majestic His praise
Which pours with magnificent exaltation of Him

34. A noble prophet hoping in the destitute
Merciful to the state of the faithful, compassionate

35. The helpless cling to his might when night enshrouds
Deep darkness or oppressive gloom

36. Through him God forgives sins and hopes
For his intercession at the Gathering for every sinner

37. And hopes throng his protection seeking refuge
At the door guaranteed for salvation, captain

38. As the waves of mounts crowded returning
To the fresh wells, pure of drink, frowning

39. The fresh growth surrounds him, its light
Rustling like lightning between clouds

40. Cupping him gently as the south wind undid
Its plaits above sweet parted hair

41. So he returned as the cheek of a loved one had dimpled
From joy, and the line of writing grew elegant

42. His Master meets him in disheveled locks
Of hair, appearing overcome by weariness

43. So he reassures her bursting belly, sated
With heavy bodies she had borne

44. And the shining moon split like his chest
And was named with his name, marked with a beauty mark

45. And adorned him from His names and attributes
Rising above depiction, ancient trait

46. In truth the trustworthy, guardian
Compassionate to servants, generous

47. And he traveled with him while night donned its mantle
The best night journey for the beloved, sought

48. From the house to the sacred house, arriving
To his frequented house, best arrival

49. To the Lofty Horizon, which all lofty places vied
In its ascent, great in its loftiness

50. And He revealed what He revealed to the best protector
Of the secrets' store, not drowsy

51. Arise delivering the message established
In the weight of that task, no shirker

52. For him miracles that humble all
Brilliances and splendors of stars

53. He brought the book of God, reciting it calling
A people whose leader shows the path to salvation

54. A clear book that erases doubt, decisive,
Before which the words of every sage falls short

55. He challenged among jinn and men, teaching,
So none showed anything but ignorance, O wise one!

56. To you, O Messenger of God, my poem in your service,
And for me your towering height if I but name a servant

57. Goodness to you O soul; understand the matter and look
And do not break apart in words fragile fragments

58. With what perfection did you hurl to rise up
In service of him? You sought a great ascent!

59. Have you forgotten what evil you put forth
Wasting in an accident ancient and recent?

60. And disobeying the Merciful in obeying desire
In every place, improper

61. You wasted a lifetime fruitlessly
And stretched with shortcomings the rope of worries

62. You blackened my face with disobedience though now visible
Upon it from the white hair an inscribed parchment

63. Your steps to sins were quick
And your drive for obedience a faltering effort

64. Yes, toward that which you desired to meet Him
You have delighted in what you sought, Bountiful!

65. Bountiful! If the arrows had rubbed his eyelashes
The threading of tears would have poured ceaseless

66. Bountiful! He sees that no person should repeat
Extending to him anything but fine things sought
