1. They were excessive in estranging me and tormenting me
And prolonged my state of lamenting and wailing

2. And made clear the stance of my crying and moaning
To bid farewell for an hour to the beloved of my heartened, saddened one

3. To God is the covenant of the assailants, and they left
My heart a hostage to youthfulness and affection

4. Their mounts departed while my tears poured
So I shone after them with the water of sunset

5. O you who laments the ignorance of their passion
Have mercy on my blaming and my reproach

6. The lover finds blame pleasant, while I
Have nothing but the water of blame as my drink

7. No delight moved me, nor did passion grow accustomed
If not for memories of a house and beloved

8. I yearn for the ruins that were once
A rising place for the full moon or nestling of a beloved

9. The hands of time have toyed with it and it echoes
In its embrace - what misfortunes of time!

10. Its covenants decay though its vows
My words will find them good and fine relatives

11. And if the abode turns away from a lover
It shakes him with its memories, back to his youth

12. Oh, my patience was in vain, for it
Destroyed the faith of my plundered heart

13. I do not forget it though time continues its course
And jealous, watchful eyes avert mine

14. The abode is adorned, its beauties with what
Every dried-up era dressed it in

15. O rider of camels that roam the emptiness
And bid farewell at nightfall

16. Scattered from a journey, every disgraced
Delighted one - where did he come from and when did he arrive?

17. The breezes blow the edges of his cloak
Where they meet, from the north and south winds

18. If they swoon from the youthfulness of his companions
Who drank at the spring of his poured tears

19. Or their journey was blocked by night's veil
They tore through the veil with fervent passion

20. In every path, without him, a wish
Abandons hopes or meets other desires

21. Why did they not incline their hearts to her
In whom are radiant eyes and hearts?

22. So you take refuge in the bosoms of Yathrib
Sheltering you from what you fear of blame

23. Where the prophecy, O radiant one
Recites the tales to every stranger

24. A wondrous secret the soil did not conceal
What was God's secret was not veiled

25. I called upon you confident in my supplication
O best of those called and best of those who respond

26. You were pleased with my praise, and if it is good
It is due to the fragrance of praise of your mention

27. What more could the prolonger seek when
The Quran contains every sweetness in your praise?

28. O nights, will you take me to attain
What I hope for and desire?

29. I erase my sins with my devotion to them
And I remove my burdens and curb my sins

30. Among youths who deserted wishes and returned
To kindle each brilliant man and woman

31. They fold the pages of their night atop the emptiness
However much you wish of joys and intimacies

32. If the guide mentions you, they repeat
The breaths of one longing for you, refreshed

33. Or the beloved caravan sings your name sweetly
They sings its melody, the yearning of the Prophet

34. Inheriting the roaming of the land from their fathers
The inheritance of succession among the children of Jacob

35. Assailants whose horses frown
Veiling the fruits of palm trees, every unripe one

36. Granters whose horses are docile
From every deaf, playful rein

37. Preventers of harm to neighbors until
Their integrity among enemies is flawless

38. Fearing their threats and hoping for their forbearance
Might is the nature of the hoped for and revered

39. Asking through him the scattering of calamities that traveled
Blown by the winds of resolve and gales

40. Guiding him are the edges of swords and resolves
That crack the feared night open

41. Until the darkness of misguidance melted through his efforts
And truth triumphed through its defeated faction

42. O son of the exalted ones who established the caliphate through piety
And endowed you alone with its usurped crown

43. They gathered to protect the faith whatever
Virtues honored you, unseen or seen

44. To God be your glory, departing or remaining
For we have witnessed every wondrous thing from them

45. How much awe or desire in you and the exalted
Leads with encouragement and deterrence

46. Still delighted with the noblest state
Where guidance rises on its watched horizon

47. It revives glories whether you come or go
And your good fortune guarantees what is sought
