1. My hand of yearning drank from my flask,
And my heart sighed a sigh of passion.

2. I cast away my tranquility in confidence
Of nearness, and replaced it with distance.

3. And perhaps I had hoped for a union,
But it was hindered by painful rejection.

4. Do not seek patience where it is absent,
For passion has destroyed my loyalty.

5. How violent is the one who turns away!
I say he is lost, so I seek my guidance.

6. I turn from the breezes and ask them
For the coolness of the wind, but they only increase the fire.

7. Passion guides me to its paths
So that you make excuses for my weakness in guidance.

8. O driver of laments, wrapped up
Crossing the empty wilderness in passion

9. Give rest to the riders, for in youth there is news
That suffices instead of supplies and poverty.

10. Water the lands with the news
Of the people of Nejd and of Nejd itself.

11. Why do you blame me for my natural passion
When it refuses anything but praise?

12. I refused anything but righteousness since it became clear
With the Guided One the features of righteousness.

13. What an excellent Caliph in guidance and piety
And building mighty glory.

14. The son of noble forefathers, their affair
Is attaining the heights with talents of passion.

15. To God from me, when He inspires me,
Remembrance, and He is matchless and unique,

16. A courageous man who pours copious rain
And crowds of burdened camels, owners of hands.

17. I showed the determination of my resolve in my quest
And fulfilled the right of glory in my aim.

18. And I attained from thirst the springs of glory
So I quenched my thirst for might and help.

19. It is the garden of refuge for one whose hopes
Were burdened with the demands of glory.

20. Had I not known the abundance of its rain,
I would not have said this is the garden of eternity.

21. To those of my people below and above,
Cast the seeds and ample distance.

22. I am too lofty for their hopes,
I possessed the glory of them all myself.

23. The writs of pardon are my conditions,
Adorned with the news of coldness.

24. The lineage of nobility did not make me forget
In the desolate emptiness with burning.

25. You rise with an outstanding neck to the highest
Levels, the noble buildings without any effort.

26. Their lofty peaks are lengthened by it,
Though sometimes fall short of the valley.

27. I moved toward you insistently and my union reached
Pillowing it with text and cheek.

28. You stoop to contain it submissively
And spend the night obedient to the spear and bow.

29. With your happiness that guaranteed for us
A lifetime of pleasant and luxurious living.

30. They came to you in delegations of Abyssinians
Seeking none but you, honored delegates.

31. Pure-faced, turned by the left hands
In Gor and Nejd like an apparition laying down.

32. Or a sharp sword pulled from its sheath.
They speak good of you that came before

33. Without denial or ingratitude.
And they see their visit to you

34. As a point of pride over Turks and Indians.
O Guided One, exalted in nobility

35. Beyond the rank of Mansur and Mahdi.
May your Lord reward you

36. For His creation, excellent reward, so excellent is that which He gives.
And you remained for the world and its inhabitants

37. In eternal might and good fortune.
