1. Longing awoke though no tears or wails,
And memories find grief when they recur,

2. My heart refused but to keep its pledge,
Though home moved on and lover went far,

3. After the incident at Nawā, God left me
A heart made tender by remembering vows,

4. Stirred by visions of fancy straying,
Kindled in ardor by breeze’s blow,

5. O my bosom friend, be blest, leave sorrow,
For I cannot answer sorrow’s call,

6. Indeed ruins have rights to be paid
In overflowing tears profusely poured,

7. Blame me not for weeping, for it is
The melting of my soul in tears dissolved,

8. The throng departed neither remiss
Nor missing the tryst or shunning parley,

9. And went just as the sword leaves the fray
Graceful its state while the lance blood-stained,

10. Tokens you gave, your traits epitomized,
Your nature in pure glory steeped,

11. Two fires arose to guide on the path,
Marvels through them wondrously opened,

12. Two meteors blazing through darkness, two clouds in dew,
Vanquishing loftiness, hitting their mark,

13. Two hands for bestowing honors, guided
To glory, pouring out, waving freely.
