1. I have a little girl with braided hair, her neck
As pliant as a bamboo stalk in its softness and poise

2. Her cheeks like a gazelle’s, her forehead shining
Like the full moon rising at its brightest

3. Eyes like a wild cow’s, her eyebrows’ arc
Like wings of night in their color and slope

4. Teeth like a blossoming meadow, green and dewy
My eyes have not stopped roving in their shade

5. She is the soft-gaited, the delicate, the gazelle
Who roams the highlands or sandy wastes

6. She visits me while evildoers sleep
And those who envy us plot in their cunning

7. On a night when stars rained down in the sky
And the crescent gleamed like a ring on her brow

8. In a blooming meadow of sweet grass
With snakes coiling around its edges for water

9. As if the radiance of the cub Muhammad
Spilled over, a stream from his cupped hands

10. Scion of the lauded Sa’id, model among men
None in his time can equal his example

11. His justice never let a clan fall apart
His generosity never hoarded wealth

12. A prince, if people were ranked by their merit
His shoe’s laces would exceed their honor

13. I hoped his gifts would reach me, nor did I lose hope
No shame when a gift is sought from its giver

14. What pride is yours in his memory!
Yours is the age of the Prophet and his kith

15. O prince of men, your blood is like the moon in the sky
Illuminating his features in its phases
