1. The birds of glory circle high in the sky,
Their feet tied with ropes of determination and will.

2. He who aspires to glory cannot restrain his heart
At the sight of valor, though foes clash with him.

3. There the horses splash in blood
Like ships on a stormy, surging sea.

4. A hero lasts as long as the son of a sultan sold him,
But falls short of one riding to battle.

5. Joyful is Saeed in his just kingdom,
While the oppressor’s realm is filled with injustice.

6. You see the horses and lions under his flag
Bearing clear signs of conquest upon them.

7. Archers and warriors with sharp swords
Jostle with them under the spears and banners.

8. And if a small part of his brave warriors approached,
They would not cease pushing from above the plain.

9. Among them are worthy men, as if
They are full moons emerging for combat.

10. Their faces reflect the brilliance of their swords,
While they are like lions roaring on the battlefield.

11. Leading them is an ocean swelling high,
With clouds grasping sharp hailstones in their hands.

12. His right hand grasps a spear and banner,
His left distributes gifts generously.

13. If he had lived in ancient times,
Ma'an and Hatem would not be famed for generosity.

14. His fingers, though deadly in combat,
Are, when appealed to in peace, rainclouds.

15. He is aided by the decisions of Fate and Destiny;
His will prevails if he decides on something.

16. When he imprisons tall horses for a raid,
The foe become like frightened animals.

17. His sword spills blood in all regions,
Flowing from Arabs and non-Arabs alike.

18. The two masters accompany him when he heads for battle,
To eat meat while the vultures circle.

19. On the day of battle, his sword executes justice,
Destroying the adversary, for he is the judge.

20. It penetrates armor, sword, and spear,
Without burdening him with debt.

21. If his enemies knew of his might,
There would be no discord left between them.

22. If he prepares to fight the foes, they come to make peace,
Reconciling with him in his own land.

23. But if they oppose him, he attacks, routing them,
Then withdraws from them confused and resigned.

24. So they do not dare to fight, for he comes upon them
Like a shooting star pelting the devils.

25. When he draws himself up, mounted and ready,
The world and even the pens tremble.

26. His coat of mail and spear protect him
When the weapons clash on the day of battle.

27. From beneath his coat of mail, his sword smiles
At the throats of the noble, while the horizon is devoid of refuge.

28. When he charges on the day of mêlée,
The enemies' breasts are shaken with fear, even the skulls.

29. Your teeth flash in the darkness like lightning
Above a vast plain with a dark horizon.

30. A knight who spent his wealth pursuing glory
With good tidings, even if the stars were dinars.

31. He enriched the world when he was alive upon the earth
And left no one in his world deprived.

32. He hides his gifts but fame reveals them,
For can the blooming of spring conceal the buds?

33. Every youth who comes to his abode
Sees himself floating in the midst of the sea.

34. My tongue falters in praising you,
For you, my master, are most merciful to all.

35. When I compose poetry in your honor
I feel as if I am conversing with the stars.

36. I have praised without leaving room for my bow,
And who in my world is skilled in verse?

37. None gained such glory as you in all the world,
Nor spoke such verse as I, the composer.

38. Your judgment is anticipated, your word enforced,
Your justice manifest, and your dominion eternal.
