1. The vicissitudes of fate contain lessons and exemplars
In them, vows and caution are of no avail
١. حوادثُ الدهرِ فيها البُجْرُ والعِبَرُ
وليس ينفع فيها النَّذر والحَذَرُ
2. Misfortunes have extended their claws amongst us
Until worries and harms became abundant
٢. حَبَوْكرٌ نَشَبَتْ فيها مَخَالبَها
حتى تكاثرَ فينا الهَمُّ والضَرَرُ
3. The loss of Abdullah has befallen us
And pearls have fallen from our eyelids
٣. هذا يفقدانِ عبدِ اللهِ حلَّ بنَا
وقد تساقطَ من أجفانِنَا الدُّرَرُ
4. The virtuous youth Muhammad, around whom
The mosques were adorned and the lives were built
٤. فتى مُحمّدٌ الزاكي الذي اعتمرتْ
بهِ المساجدُ وانقامت به السِيَرُ
5. O Lord, water his grave, which contains his body
With torrents flowing from tearful eyes
٥. يا رب روّي ضريحاً ضمَّ جثتَه
بوابلٍ من عيونِ المُزنِ يَنْحَدرُ
6. The mosques complain of losing him; he used to recite the
Verses and suras therein, which would overwhelm him
٦. تشكو المساجد فقداه وكانَ بها
يقرا تُقَلْقِلُه الآياتُ والسُّورُ
7. And I ask God that I meet him in bounties
In the Paradise we inhabit, if fate allows it
٧. واسأل اللهَ أن ألقاه في نِعَمٍ
بجنةِ سكننا إنْ ساعفَ القَدَرُ
