My efforts went astray, and I did not find a path

2. How can I guide when I did not follow a guide?
My deeds went bad and my heart turned black

3. I had no excuse when I disobeyed the Majestic One
And obeyed passions and the undeserving

4. To obey passions and give to the deserving!
And carried heavy burdens of sins

5. How can I be saved when I carried heavy loads?
And rode passions, staying and travelling

6. How can I arrive when I wronged the stopping place?
And threw away the saving truth foolishly

7. And stuck to procrastination and petty excuses
And disobeyed the prohibition though above my head

8. The warner of old age unsheathed a polished sword
And the white hair grew above my head like an unsheathed sword

9. Yet I did not obey it though it stood ready
What can I do when death calls

10. "Move, move O settler, it is time to leave!"
With what can I argue? What excuse do I have

11. Except that I did wrong in deed and word?
So let me cry and complain with passion

12. For passion awakens a lurking malady
And let my tears flow little by little

13. And I roam the meadows mile after mile
And seek the wanderers riding band after band

14. And gaze at the stars generation after generation
Hoping the water of tears will extinguish a fire

15. That caused my innermost self grief and sickness
Or hoping that my intense agony will dry a tear

16. And make lean the fat body with disease
From my eyes though I have no other spring

17. That made my cheek a channel for blood
From my companion though I have no other friend

18. That made my cheek a channel for blood
From my companion though my eyes never

19. Wronged me, nor deviated a little!
O my heart, I see you blame my eyes

20. As if the hands can commit a blameless fault!
If you gather them you will find the eyes of humans

21. Swimming in seas of tears for long
Or if a human gathers you, he will witness ignorance

22. Smouldering between your sides
O my confidants! Where are my confidants?

23. The torrent flooded over the knolls
O my hopes! Where are my hopes?

24. The ornaments made their people disappear
O my life! How can I have life

25. When passions made the sick one a martyr?
O breeze, visiting from the good land

26. Whose air is fragrant with perfume
Fill the land with basil, herbs

27. And lavender and stock and nobility
We furnished eyes for you out of humility

28. And kissed the ground in veneration
Please accept the young man’s passion, for I

29. O morning breeze, see that you accept
And help me bear my passion

30. Maybe one afflicted will help another afflicted
And mention the beloved to water me

31. With the tale of the beloved like a filled cup
And when you return to the dwellings then explain

32. The story of passion, beware of fabrication!
And convey my greeting, and on my behalf

33. Kiss the sandal and earth in kissing
And gently, by God O breeze, gently

34. Pass on some of my memory to the beloved
And narrate to his glory tales of tenderness

35. Maybe the mighty one will have mercy upon the lowly
And maybe tenderness will favor with a promise

36. His promise was always fulfilled
And carry my passion to the turtledove and cast

37. The songbird of the valley as a messenger
And make them both cry for me with every woeful sob

38. And mourn me with every feeble lament
O wanderer from the path to the Beloved

39. How long have you strayed from the path, O wanderer?
If ruins made you grieve, then cry like me

40. Can you find one who cries like me?
And forbid sleep at dawn and when resting at noon

41. And let tears flow early and late
And always fast during the day, and recite

42. His remembrance in the darkness, chanting
And prepare to leave though you live, and leave though you settle,

43. Adorned though you find Him as arrival
And humble yourself though you rise high

44. And be modest though you come lowly
And cast off the self and make it an enemy

45. And always be truthful and accept it as substitute
And think well of a good person and be just to him

46. The reward is good for one who thinks good
And praise the beloved excellently so that you may

47. Be rewarded with an abundant reward
For he is Taha, the noble young man, the chosen one

48. Pride of the world, majestic, beautiful
Source of glory and perfection hoped for

49. Ahmad the happy, the guarded, the weaned one
Most generous of creatures in spirit, essence

50. And attributes, fellowship, and tribe
Mighty of esteem, towering in station, and abode

51. What a Messenger Prophet sent as a Messenger!
Manifesting requirement, a lamp giving light

52. Pure, chosen beloved, intimate friend
Best of creatures, elite of the Truth, Taha

53. Increased over him in preference
God formed him of splendor and light

54. So he became perfect, majestic, beautiful
God perfected his traits and protected him

55. And gifted to complete, endowing him
And chose him over humankind and selected him

56. And showed him the face of perfect beauty
And approved him intercessor, dignitary

57. And imam, witness, and trustee
Through him He called people to Himself

58. And upon him revealed the Scripture
Decisive, truthful herald and warner

59. Witness, guide, clarifier, evidence
He contained the scrolls, Psalms and tablets

60. And attained the Torah and Bible
He knew writing though an illiterate

61. And clarified the dotted and unmarked letters
And we narrate from him the sciences, so we realized

62. That we understood the transmitted and reason
Or with the messengers and angels when

63. God sent Gabriel behind him
And he came with Al-Buraq to mount it

64. So he mounted it and travelled with speed
And ascended, piercing the celestial spheres

65. Until he surpassed the veils, rising and attaining
And saw God however He willed plainly

66. Where none can be named like or match Him
And drew near, so he was as near as

67. The bowstring, no, nearer in love and acceptance
And He chose him for position and proximity

68. And preferred him in what He preferred in Scripture
And called him: "You are best of My servants.

69. I do not want with what I wanted any substitute.
You are from Me as you have seen. So witness

70. A light whose essence perplexed minds."
And to you belongs pride. You reached a station

71. None other witnessed the equal of it in justice."
I am nearest to you than yourself. And were it not

72. For My connection, you would not have attained Me."
"O joy of heart and delight of eye, as you were

73. A servant, and lord, and majestic!"
"Receive good tidings! Receive tidings! For you have become

74. Savior, beloved, elite, and intimate!"
"You are My secret, My manifestation, and My purpose

75. So to you belongs command. Do not allow change!"
And he leaned, returning with the stars of effort

76. And handmaids of darkness trailing their hems
At the plain of the station he woke up

77. Preferring his companions in preference
What happiness and bliss that He called us

78. So we answered and followed the path
And we articulated there is no god but

79. The Maker of creation and chose him as Messenger
Through whom He rescued those nearing destruction

80. Jonah, Job, the Friend, Ishmael
Through whom He protected Solomon, Sheba

81. And the tribes and wives in content and acceptance
Through whom for Isaac He brought near

82. And the twelve tribes attained what they hoped for
Through His name Jacob attained glory

83. That turned the pupil bright as kohl
Through him Enoch ascended and John

84. Through him Elias and the Prince found bliss
Through Him He sufficed a thousand with one meal

85. And with a little milk mounted a terrible ascent
Through Him He protects though called at affliction

86. And to Him yielded when Fervor supplicated
Through Him the young foal of `Anqa’ submitted

87. And through Him it obeyed wherever it dwelled
Through Him He rescued the young gazelle from slaughter

88. And spared it punishment and oppression
Through Him the beasts spoke and obeyed

89. And the palm trees loved to stand when he called them
Through Him He returned the rod by a shake

90. When he marched out an unsheathed sword
Through Him God protected him from the evil of Quraysh

91. The night of the house when they planned mischief
Through Him he called to guidance so the evildoer denied

92. And the stubborn unbeliever withdrew in disgrace
Through Him he ransomed the gazelle when it came a captive

93. So the gazelle proclaimed: “Bear witness that Taha came a Messenger”
Through Him the forearm spoke of his mark

94. When He, whose feet the enemy ate, arrived
Through Him He healed the eye with a glance and watered it

95. And it recovered when he decided to depart
Through Him He restored the severed palm

96. Of Ibn `Ifrata after cutting - how horrible!
From his palms gushed springs of clear water -

97. How many thirsty He watered and floods He released!
How much darkness He removed and brought light!

98. How many illness He healed and how many sick He cured!
How many afflictions He dispelled and reliefs He brought!

99. How many lost souls He guided and paths He made smooth!
How much vanity He captured and enriched poverty!

100. How much cutting relations He restored and brought together!
How much foresight He blinded and insight He gave the blind!

101. And how much a killer He captured and a killed He revived!
How many miracles He showed and confounded all creatures!

102. How much signs He innovated and how much proof He manifested
The pregnant never birthed his equal, no,

103. Nor received the like of him in preference
He led honored people to jihad, victorious

104. In endurance, conquest; fierce lions
They put aside polytheism and carried guidance

105. Clarifying for us categorical tenets and connotations
They protected their religion and elevated their banners

106. And supplicated their Lord and trusted the Messengers
They did marvelous feats against the enemy

107. So the enemy's actions were done to him
They bought with their souls the Garden of Eden

108. When the seller of guidance only asked for pebbles
They wrote with their spears on the plains

109. Dotted by their lances in composition
They presented the miracle of the enemy, and presented

110. The miracle of religion when they sent out the steeds
They perfected stabbing and striking thus they built

111. For their enemies in battle keen swords
How many strongholds of obedience they built

112. Adorned with impressive architecture and completion
Seeking, when adorning it with ornament

113. A constitution that fashioned for it a crown
Noble character fused with eloquence

114. Freshness abundant, pride long
Ask the warriors about his hands in battle, and respect

115. The people of peace, doing well with representation
You will find in lowlands the rain pouring

116. And see the lion fierce for cubs
Who can parallel their ascendance and pride?

117. Or match their actions and sayings?
Or say the Pleiades vies with the Moon?

118. Or envision the stars wearing the crown?
Are they not in thickets of war like scholars

119. Making the lion in existence a lamp?
Ask the people of war about his hands, and respect

120. The people of peace, doing excellently in allegory
You will find the rain in the lowlands pouring

121. And see the lion sheltering cubs
They attained the crown and Al-Buraq the lofty

122. And deserved praise and the glorious station
For him is the Pond and the Intercession when

123. Creatures come confusedly in terror
The creatures will come to him, anxious crying:

124. “Stand for us! Intercede with the Lord of Acceptance!”
So with a call: I swear what awaits them

125. Is like what it awaits me, stored for completion!"
And the Intercessor will come bowing spontaneously

126. Under God's Throne hoping for Guarantor
And confide with the most beautiful praise in gratitude

127. Mastering praise and declaration
And call: “Will anyone answer the desperate

128. Supplicant except the Responder to needs?”
“Not at all! From the time I aimed him distraught

129. As seeker of help did He fail as fulfilling!
No, nor when I feared and sought refuge through Him

130. As seeker of sanctuary did He fail as guardian!
No, nor when I sought from His kindness did I find, hoping

131. Except He gave beautifully as Bestower!
Far be it that His all-encompassing glory

132. Should constrict before me though my heart
Became infatuated with Him and my interior

133. Was set ablaze with His branding!”
“Or that I should see the grave as a pit for my punishment

134. While still hoping for safety from the tremendous!”
“How can I be disgraced when He gave me drink

135. Generously in sleep, gracing me with the diadem!”
“Or imagine myself expelled from gardens

136. After becoming entitled to them as newcomer!”
“O pride of Arabs! I came a newcomer

137. And I see Arabs do not repel a newcomer!
And I headed for sanctuary and came a guest

138. So empty my lodging - Arabs regard the guest!”
“I dared through praising you to ask

139. That I gain reward through it as gift
Shame upon You! You disappoint an ardent youth

140. Knocking the door with praises as beggar?!”
“You are more faithful than to turn away, and more generous

141. Than to grant little, being named Most Generous!”
“You are higher than any praiser can praise, by my life!

142. So what can I say, in truth?”
“I swear by the Essence of God truly

143. A veracious, mighty, majestic oath:”
“If all spheres and clouds were ink

144. And all lands reams in succession piled high
And plants lengthened were pens

145. And existence's waters ink most black
And all people became writers until

146. The end of time describing your beauty”
“They would not fulfil one tenth of one tenth

147. Of attributes God granted you, O Messenger Taha!”
“With what can creation fulfill when God deposited

148. Your praise in the Scripture revealed?”
“Except that I made your praise an impenetrable fortress

149. Hoping to fulfill my tremendous hopes through it”
“I dared, O Generous One, knowing

150. That whoever comes a beggar is welcomed as beggar
So enfold me in the aura of your glory and pour

151. Upon me, my asylum, a constant shade!”
“And perfect for me the beautiful, so bless me!

152. For hope in the beautiful was always good”
The claimant to your beauty went astray in likeness,

153. O beauty manifest in guidance or match!
Glory perfected and eloquence simple

154. Dew abundant, pride long
This, this is how one attains highness

155. Not from one stingy did the hopeful attain
What God decreed cannot be attained by striving

156. O wise brother, so leave figuring
And to God I complain of what I endure

157. O complaints of hardship, so patience is beautiful!
And to Him I weep and plead in fear

158. Of sins that burdened my frail back
Maybe, perhaps He removes my affliction

159. Or sends my matter back shaped anew
He suffices me, aids me, is my Trustee

160. God suffices me, my Helper and Guardian!
O my hope, refuge, and aid

161. Fulfill what I hope of You as my sponsor!
O my beloved, confidante, my friend

162. You are nearer to me than any other in attainment
I am a servant while You are Lord, and who do I have

163. If You abandon me for being ignorant?
I am needy and You are Wealthy

164. And we know the Wealthy gives amply
So heal my harm and grant me wellbeing and pardon me

165. And allow me to attain Your abounding care
And spare me the harm of my turmoil and enlighten

166. My essence with piety, being for me a guide
And save me from sins and be my salvation

167. Where the intimate friend does not avail his friend
And fulfill my debt and deliver me and give charity on my behalf

168. And now decree for me that attainment
And begin for me goodness, travelling or staying

169. And spare me evil, asking or bestowed
And make me die as martyr and have mercy

170. Upon Your powerless destitute abject servant
And protect the realm under Commander Amr

171. And the Imam Ar-Ridha' the All-Sufficient Guarantor
And aid him and grant him mighty victory

172. And allow him attainment and gifts
And envelop him and seal for him with good

173. And perpetuate him for existence with beautiful permanence
And protect the covenant with the Imam hoped for

174. Of generous hands, giver of abundance
And pardon him, grant him wellbeing, and give him

175. What he hopes, and spare him impediments
And drape him and it with the veil of safety

176. And perpetuate his might timelessly long!
And conceal the Son of Vice and heal his suffering

177. And grant him eternity and spare him disgrace
And present parents with Your pardon and provide

178. My brothers and sons from You acceptance
And have mercy on my venerable guided sheikhs

179. And bring the Muslims collectively abundant grace!
And fulfill the return to sanctuary and mosque

180. To see the House and Station, most ennobled
And facilitate my circumambulating and Sa`y
