1. If my doe-eyed beloved denies she killed me,
My blood bears witness on her cheeks.
١. إنْ أنْكَرَتْ قَتْلِي ظُبَي مُقْلَتَيْكَ
فَلِي دَمٌ يَشْهَدُ فِي وَجْنَتَيْكْ
2. O you who takes lives when loving,
Alas, none escapes your hands.
٢. يَا سَالِبَ الأرْوَاحِ فِي حُبِّهِ
هَيْهَاتَ يَنْجُو أحَدٌ مِنْ يَدَيْكْ
3. You have bared white swords in the eyelids
And shook the braids of your hair.
٣. جَرَّدْتَ فِي الأجْفَانِ بِيضًا كَمَا
هَزَزْتَ سُمْرَ الخَطّ مِنْ مَعْطِفَيْكْ
4. Your eyes sent me arrows
Fitted by a bow of your eyebrows.
٤. وَأرْسَلَتْ عَيْنَاكَ لِي أسْهُمًا
قَدْ فَوَّقَتْهَا القَوْسُ مِنْ حَاجِبَيْكْ
5. O garden of roses and smooth cheeks,
Who planted the basil on your temples?
٥. يَا وَجْنَةَ الوَرْدِ وَجِيدَ المَهَا
مَنْ أنْبَتَ الرَّيْحَانَ فِي عَارِضَيْكْ
6. O you who vitalizes the sun, who crowned
Rubies with amber on your moles?
٦. وَيَا مُحَيَّا الشَّمْسِ مَنْ تَوَّجَ الْ
يَاقُوتَ بِالْعَنْبَرِ مِنْ شَامَتَيْك
7. O magic that triumphs over spells,
Who cast that sorcery in your eyes?
٧. وَيَا رَشًا يَزْوَرُّ عَنْ ضَيْغَمٍ
مَنْ ذَا أجَالَ السحرَ فِي نَاظِرَيْكْ
8. Hatim, do not blame those who see
The stars submit to your wrists.
٨. حَتَّامَ لاَ تَلْوِي عَلَى مَنْ يَرَى
أنَّ النَقَا تَحْتَ لِوَى سَالِفَيْكْ
9. Sickness has worn him out. Can you heal him?
For comfort lies only in your peace.
٩. أوْدَى بِهِ السقم فَهَلْ تَشْفِهِ
فَإنَّمَا الرَّاحَةُ فِي رَاحَتَيْكْ
10. He died of love, none can revive him,
Except to sip the wind from your drink.
١٠. وَمَاتَ فِي الحُبّ وَلاَ مُنْعِشٌ
إلاّ ارْتشَاف الرَّاحِ من مَرْشِفَيْكْ
11. If you wish, torment or be kind,
For hell and heaven lie in your cheeks.
١١. إنْ شِئْتَ عَذّبْ أوْ فَنَعِّمْ رِضًى
فَالنَّارُ وَالجَنَّةُ فِي وَجْنَتَيْكْ
12. If you wish, heal or add to his woes,
For sickness and health lie in your eyes.
١٢. أوْ شِئْتَ عَافِ أوْ فَزِدْ فِي ضَنًى
فالسقم وَالصحّة فِي مُقْلَتَيْكْ
13. By God, can a love-sick heart hope
For freedom while hostage to you?
١٣. بِاللَّهِ هَلْ يَرْجُو أخُو صَبْوَةٍ
خَلاَصَ قَلْبِ وَهْوَ رَهْنٌ لَدَيْكْ
14. He let tears flow like water to you,
And willingly dammed his soul for your sake.
١٤. أجْرَى لَكَ الدَّمْعَ سَبِيلاً كَمَا
قَدْ حَبَّسَ الأحشَاءَ طوعاً عَلَيْكْ
