1. God's peace, how the wine cleared up
And how its greeting shone through the vessels

2. To the one who brought me some of it - a perfection
That told of precious ruby wine

3. Reminding me of our night that now
Each of us disobeys because of it

4. And asking me apologetically
Though I've stopped drinking the fermentation

5. Describing it to the deaf and who can
Make the deaf hear a soft call?

6. So my negligent friend calling me to drink
You would have heard me respond if you called the living

7. Can I hope to answer your call in it
When it's become a thing long past?

8. The steadfast turned foolish in it
As did the happy turn miserable

9. You spoke truly, if you met a youth
But you found only an old man

10. So leave me be and forgive my blame
For I saw sanity in sobriety

11. That's why God forbade it for us
And promised agonizing punishment for it

12. And doubled the punishment for whoever seeks it
And made his state deplorable

13. It hurts me that I wasted my life
Stupidly with it, gaining nothing

14. Did I get any use, woe is me
With nothing for me or by me?

15. And who sins tastes it -
How can you see him innocent of it?

16. I have promised by quitting it
That I will not return to it

17. Maybe God will have mercy on me and pardon
And forgive what my hands did to me

18. And give me on Judgement Day
A drink of Salsabeel, sweet and pure
