1. The light beamed from the smiling visage
When it saw the garden reveal its beauty in a fair face

2. And the birds sang atop the branch in delight
As the bough swayed narrating the dance of the fawn

3. And the dew crowned the mouths of the buds, so say
How good a kiss on the lips of a soft beauty!

4. And the myrtle stirred its ears to let them hear
The song of two songbirds Shahrur and Warqa'

5. And the acacia suckled on the udders of its branches
The streams of Anhar and Anda'

6. And the rose revealed a cheek long hidden
By the hands of coyness behind a veil

7. Like a chalice of ruby on patterns
Of emerald flowing with pure wine

8. And the eyes of the sleepy were awakened from slumber
As the leaves rustled in the gusts of the zephyr

9. Like dishes of silver laden with gold
To single out white and yellow for us

10. And the jasmine trees depicted for us
Constellations that dotted the horizon with shooting stars

11. Or a necklace of silver waves strung
Or domes of Yashmak crowned with chrysolite

12. Or a border of velvet embroidered with crystal
Or latticework of pearls over green

13. As if the green tips of their ivory stems
Were the mark of a bite that showed on a maiden's cheek

14. And the swooning narcissus guarded its sight
From the glances of a passionate eye

15. Like a cup of pearl covered in dew
On a twig of emerald revealing a languishing glance

16. And the cloves have rosy cheeks
On green wrists, the seduction of onlookers

17. Like stars of carnelian in the orbit
Of glass that harbor radiant meteors

18. And the river flowed hurriedly in its bed
As sleep flowed on the eyelids of slumber

19. As if the light, unfolded on its surface
Were jewels threaded on the necklace of a bride

20. Flowing like the dawn through the thickets of darkness
And undulating like a serpent green and speckled

21. And the morning stood victorious in the horizons
With the miracle of light, effacing the signs of gloom

22. It remained lamenting the darkness in a pitch-black night
In a dress of black feathers, somber

23. Like a monk in the heights of the monastery, diligent
In tolling his bell in the wing of obscurity

24. As if its voice when it moaned were the voice of a bereaved and yearning turtledove
That bowed its eyelids to its singing,

25. So I thought it an ear listening for news
And the air readied the steeds of the winds, which

26. Did not race their racers in the hippodrome of water
And the thunder's restrainer galloped the surging waves

27. With a whip of lightning to the broad horizons
And the waves crested under the palm of the breeze as

28. The sleeve billowed at the elbow of folds
And the downpour of abundant rain quenched the meadows

29. Of my master Uthman in all directions
A master whose hand drops wealth easily

30. Dropping the annexation, omitting the dual declension
He observed the parallel and transcended the lofty heights

31. Disregarding defects, not heeding disparagement
Matching description to him, every outstanding trait

32. With the threading of virtues or ending discords
Say to him who compared the attainments of the eminent

33. You erred when you compared a torrent to gusts
His excellencies crowned him with a crown of guidance

34. And the hand of the sublime girded him with bravery
And the palm of perfection dressed him in robes

35. Finer and more splendid than those of Sanaa
He rises with a palm over the hopeful, bestowing gifts,

36. While his eyes glance at the elite, benevolent
Through him the heights of dominion were stabilized,

37. And his horizons expanded in well-being and sublimity
Possessor of munificence and power, on days of ease and calamity,

38. Like the clouds, stirring up good and bad
Easy to reconcile in his zeal,

39. Like firewood that combines fire and water
In his hand a pen that makes conclusive judgments

40. Free of the shame of error and vulgarity
It casts things unperceived upon the scroll

41. As if he had received them through inspiration
Sipping the saliva of the letter Nun with thirst

42. As if it were marked with sweetness
If he gives generously, his generosity does not diminish,

43. Or speaks, his words contain no errors
Their flavor was improved due to his eloquence,

44. Not even the scent of cloves or jasmine
Elevated above any peer in manners

45. As wombs were infertile to one like him
When he unsheathes his sword with the enemy massed

46. The dawn rises amid the darkness of night
And if the night of disturbing events grows dark

47. Without its horizons brightening with flashes of lightning
He illuminates it with a meteor of his resolve

48. And the lamp of his sound opinion and insight
Victorious with a sharp sword in battle

49. Supported with a hand that makes peace
The righteous governors reaped with their hands

50. The harvest of misguidance, from the brows of foes
Smooth of forehead, open of palm, you would think him

51. A flower on the horizon, or a flower in the water
He never tires of giving and hoping

52. Repeated between dawn and dusk
A people whose light the Merciful kindled

53. How then can their detractor hope to extinguish?
They, they are a people Allah gave power

54. To subdue the enemies with battering and reddening
In the beginning or end of their affair

55. God showed them to be lights dispelling darkness
A people whose ancestry to Omar the Farouq

56. Ennobled them with titles and names
They bought Allah's abode with their souls

57. And so deserved the profit of the elite’s ransom
They desire only the victory of God, and fear not

58. If they intend to terrify the audacious
They and the eyes of God protecting them

59. Are shining moons, or Sirius the Scorcher
Their most learned leads them in the prayer of victory

60. Concluding and opening with triumph and granting
A seasoned warrior who defends the kingdom, attentive,

61. Many a treasure tomorrow will be guarded by a sentinel
O sovereign whom the depiction of his speech reinforces

So congratulate yourself on Eid al-Fitr when

64. The stars of its joy rose on the horizon of good tidings
Its crescent of Shawwal greeted you smiling

65. Like the Lam fused to the Dal, or the Nun to the Ra
So delight in it and in manifold joys you live

66. A good life of glory, bounty, and comfort

67. To the best husband, seen as the finest match
Its quality transcended description when its artistry

68. Transcended the ugliness of flaws and weakness
If it is not the workmanship of al-A'sha, its composer

69. Relays the sun of Ibn Hilal's brilliance
When she smiles, the buds of her dimples make you forget

70. Many an eyelid of tender rosy charm
You remain like a star in good fortune and nobility

71. Bringing out the beautiful and making Hatem al-Ta'i forget
Neither did the rain glimmer on the branches with its tears

72. Nor the flowers chime from the eyelids of slumber
