1. They brandished their spears and narrowed their eyelids,
Or have you not seen the ladies and the young bucks?

2. They replaced the arrows with glances,
When they waited for the antelope instead of eyelids.

3. They folded their robes, their cheeks blushing,
Did you see moons rising over the branches?

4. Their smiles flashed like lightning, never fading
Except to rain my tears in torrents.

5. A herd took fright and bolted away,
But he brought them back to life as they were before.

6. With his charm, his cheek is protected
By hair black as aloeswood and lilies.

7. Scorpions twisted in the mole of his cheek
So it was guarded by the sting of remorse.

8. His robes outshone pearls but I have not
Seen chamomile bear such pomegranates.

9. I called to his smiling lips shaped like a pearl,
“Essence, how did you steal all perfection?”

10. And I bid the nightingale in the rose of his cheek,
“Amber, who protected this coral reef?”

11. “Oh you who claim to hide his clear cheek,
Can you claim concealment along with tears?”

12. And you pretend not to witness the beauty of his being,
Is there an eye that doesn’t see the universe?

13. Do not deny, for your heart has always
Been bound to that vision since it appeared.

14. My two friends, stop for a while in Tunis
To revive your souls and bodies.

15. And ask about his caravan and his camp
If you miss the riders and camels.

16. On the coast west of it, an antelope
Drove away the lions and fawns.

17. Wielding weak weapons, his glances
Were spears that rained from his eyes.

18. A full moon in which one seeking guidance falters,
And when guided, his confusion returns.

19. His face like the sun, his robe like a wand,
His mouth a blossom, his swagger a human.

20. Your cheeks reveal to both worlds, when
Your Numan-like cheek shows itself to my eyes.

21. In his mouth I sensed musk, and in his lightning
I mixed ambergris and camphor.

22. His beauty tempted the heart of his lover.
Has his irresistible glance not tempted you?

23. Slender, smooth, the wish, he eclipsed
The houris, nymphs, and wild animals.

24. In the fire of his cheek the heavens flourished,
And Ridwan became the keeper of his Eden.

25. The stars of the horizon tried to describe his cheek
So his moon lost some of its illumination.

26. The meadow offered citrons to his mouth
So the branches protected his slender frame.

27. I recite his lyrics of longing but if only
He would narrate to us the verses of sorrow!

28. Where the garden made public his beauty it
Scented clothes and perfumed tents.

29. The wand adorned itself in necklaces when
Its flowers wove garlands.

30. The birds articulated their melodies to his lute
To teach rhythms and airs.

31. Dawn revealed a sign that erased
The paint of darkness, so I saw it as proof.

32. My lord Uthman, whose right hand
Brought the dew of mercy and unleashed the flood.

33. My lord, when we tire of listing his merits,
So we can draw life and joy from them,

34. His glory dictates to us, but when it ends
We cannot grasp what it dictated.

35. A banner, when I say peerless wealth,
You speak the truth through his knowledge, peerless.

36. If Al-Ta'i and Malik saw his person
They would say “Yes, he is the one who enriched us.”

37. He is unique in bounty and knowledge, quenching
The thirst of gifts and clarifying truths.

38. Clouds of generosity trail him wherever
You visit him, pouring rain.

39. You see loyalty scattered and gathered,
Inhabiting his mind and tongue.

40. The sharpness of his intellect dispelled
Illusions from him, shocking noses and tastes.

41. He attained perfection, and with just one measure of his gift
He eclipsed the full moon, fearing no loss.

42. Smiling, affable, when he promises bounty
He follows goodness with kindness.

43. Like a cloud, no flash of his lightning shone
Except it brought generous rain.

44. The clouds of his open hands poured forth, inclining
Neither westward nor sideways.

45. Of high station, his integrity outweighed
The scales even before they were set.

46. And a status above the heavens, unshakable,
Leaving no place for climbers.

47. Noble, his magnificent rule a towering palace
He built with the height of perfection a hall.

48. Awake, bright, his forehead dispelled
The darkness and disputes.

49. Excellent guidance, when the gloom clears,
He institutes guidance and proves the argument.

50. As for his voice and might, both
Have overwhelmed minds and thoughts.

51. A king whose rule towered, so for his sake
Kings became subservient slaves.

52. Making weak kingship strong,
And abandoning strong kingship in disgrace.

53. Terror does not lurk in his heart,
And a lion is not afraid of a little bird.

54. Firm, fearless, as if he made
Fear itself a guarantor of safety.

55. A hero, when the lightning of his brown eyes flashed,
The brave hearts of warriors turned blind.

56. How many fierce lions were made his prey
By his spears, to feed the vultures!

57. You did not gain your enemies in war, but rather
They gained shrouds when they fought you.

58. You left their faces in the places you met them,
Their chins, their eyes, and their noses.

59. Oh you who deny his claim to the caliphate, turn back,
For you have come with lies and slander.

60. Do not deny, for the one who stands with his sword
Has shown evidence and proof.

61. The caliphate of Al-Farooq poured unto him when
Tongues of consent named him Uthman.

62. A king through whom the garden of caliphate blossomed
When his pens shook the branches.

63. While he shakes the branches to warn a transgressor,
He shook the twigs to warn the evildoer.

64. His eloquence is like writing with his sword,
A blossom in a garden dotted with dew.

65. From a people who are clouds in prosperity, and if
Strife stirs, you see them as flames.

66. They made saddles into thrones for their lodging,
And spears into staffs, antelope into rugs.

67. And arrows into light, pigeons into food,
Meadows into gardens, and enemies into guests.

68. Game, when their sword sheaths disappear,
They make hilts into eyelids.

69. A people whose lineage encompasses the age
That repelled hypocrisy and showed faith.

70. A pedigree we are brought closer to by love
Of their Farooqi, my lord, and by his name we banish Satan.

71. Pride to you, O Banu Farooq, for you have
A brilliance that illuminated the horizons and cosmos.

72. May praise of you bring joy to hearts
And delight to ears forever.

73. May it suffice you as pride that his repute
Has surpassed examples and peers.

74. O guardian of the house whose builder’s pillar
Was piety, establishing its foundation.

75. You have reinforced the pillars of prosperity, so its pilgrims
Clung to circumambulation and kissed the pillars.

76. If the trees you passed understood you,
Their branches would respond to you.

77. The path rejoiced wherever you traveled,
And you made music there for some time.

78. You adorned me with your generosity, so the leaves
Of my praise sang their tunes for you.

79. So enjoy the month of fasting, it is a month
Whose fasting attains nearness.

80. Blessings from God, choosing you to attain them,
And God provides for whom He wills acceptance.

81. Be joyous for God’s forgiveness, He continues
To erase sins and grant pardon.
