1. I pitched my tent on a hillock
Where shade and running water were at hand,
١. وَمُرتَبَعٍ حَطَطتُ الرَحلَ مِنهُ
بِحَيثُ الظِلُّ وَالماءُ القَراحُ
2. So fair a place, its beauty should forbid
A king his kingdom, if he spared to seize it.
٢. يُحَرِّمُ حُسنَ مَنظَرِهِ مَليكٌ
يُحَرِّمُ مُلكَهُ القَدَرُ المُتاحُ
3. The brook that runs down from it sobs with grief
That men should choose another camping ground.
٣. فَجِريَةُ ماءِ جَدَوَلِهِ بُكاءٌ
عَلَيهِ وَشَدوُ طائِرِهِ نِياحُ
