1. The branches of the palm tree stir and sway
As the dawn shortens the train of darkness.
١. أَما وَاِهتِصارِ غُصونِ البَلَس
وَقَد قَلَّصَ الصُبحُ ذَيلَ الغَلَس
2. The ripe dates begin to fall and spill their juice
Like the drooling of a sleepy loved one.
٢. وَمالَ يَسيلُ جَنى شَهدِهِ
كَما سالَ ريقُ حَبيبٍ نَعَس
3. This exquisite, sweet harvest has brought
A pleasurable scent to the garden's breath.
٣. لَقَد ساقَ مِن رائِقِ المُجتَلى
شَهِيَّ الجَنى مُستَطابَ النَفَس
4. I deduced its ripeness from the whiteness of the spathes
And grew fond of its blackened dates.
٤. فَهِمتُ لَهُ بِبَياضِ الثُغورِ
وَأَحبَبتُ فيهِ سَوادَ اللَعَس
