1. A boy carrying it walked and sang,
Then bent down and mourned his pigeon,
2. And we shyly turned our eyes from his hands,
And his cheeks still wet with tears,
3. While the night folded its black flag,
And the breeze of dawn unsheathed its sword,
4. As if the clouds and lightning desired
To mount and take the reins of slumber.
